ing Chicora High School of
Charleston stage a sensa-|
tional come-back in the
opening game to almost de
feat the favored Greenwod
High team.
At the half Greenwood had a
lead of 10 to 4 but in the second
half the Navy Yard lasses really
went to town and the game
wound up 27 to 28 in favor of
Greenwood with Chicora missing
a free throw which would have
tied up the game, just a second
before the final whistle blew.
Anderson, picked by many to
win the tournament, had no dif
ficulty whatever in disposing of
Brookland-Cayce 40 to 15.
The Anderson lasses displayed
as fine teamwork as has ever
been seen on the local floor, and
seemed to be able to ring baskets
from the starting angles. The out
come of this game was never in
doubt from the starting whistle as
Anderson rung a basket almost
immediately after getting the ball
on the tipoff.
Anderson played Conway Wed
nesday night while the Camden
High girls met the strong Green
wood team.
The championship game on
Thursday night is expected to
draw a capacity house.

Lovers Of Camden
Music lovers of Camden filled
the Grammar School auditorium
last Friday night at the second
concert of the current series of
programs presented under the
auspices of the Camden Communi
ty Concert Association. Their ap
proval of John Tyers, brilliant
young baritone, grew from polite
applause to sincere enthusiasm as
the program progressed. The
variety of his numbers, ranging
from operatic arias to songs by
modern composers, many of these
sung in English, showed Mr. Ty
ers’ interest in pleasing all types
of listeners.
Three arias from operas by Mo
zart opened the concert, and Mr.
