Garden Notes
' Colour in the garden may be
had nil the year round.
Now ia the time to plant or
transplant shrubs, for if moved
later they may suffer from
drought during the summer be
fore they become established.
We can have colour without
flowers if shrubs are judiciously
used. The foliage of the broad
leaved evergreens contrast one
with another in different shades
of green and for those who like
variegated leaves or red foliage
we have the Japanese plum, the
bra with red shoots,
ittosporum, the acuba
plant and many gold
en foliaged broad leaved ever
greens as well as conifers.
For berries we have the hol
lies and pyracantha, and the ca
mellias are now proving more
hardy than was supposed. This
takes us into the deciduous flow
ering shrubs whose name la le
gion. Visit your neighbors gardens
and choose your favorites and
watch for the season of ~
