City Manager Jack Tallent told
the city commissioners last Fri
day that most of the parking met
ers in the city had been inspected
with a factory representative and
that the manufacturers of • the
meters had promised to overhaul
aU of them which had been found
to be in bad condition.
Mr. Tallent said that something
was wrong with more than 50 per
cent of the meters, which antagon
ized the public and made it diff
cult to enforce parking regula
tions. *
The city commission instructed
the city manager to drop over
parking fines to 50 cents.

City Commission
The city commissioners at their
meeting last Friday night passed
an appropriation ordinance desig
nating the city’s estimated expen
ditures of $142,056 for the re
mainder of Camden’s fiscal year.

ager. The commission reduced the
number of new policemen from
three to two. It also provided
monies to repair and redecorate
the .city offices. The commission
decided that with the anticipated
expansion of the city that the city
government should fall in line
with the progressive merchants
who are planning to redecorate
their businesses for new trades.
The bill carries an appropria
tion for remodeling the city* jail
and police offices.
The appropriations for the gen
eral fund for the next six months
follow: Personal services $45,915;
contractural services $12,964; ma
terials and supplies $7,000;*fixed
charges $1,050; capital outlay $10,-
000; donations $3,848; retirement
act $1,500; retirement of debt
$43,000.

Mrs. Robert Taller, the treas
urer, reported that $955.58 was
the balance on hand but that the
auxiliary has outstanding com
mitments of $465.53 left from last
year’s business to complete all
work started in the nurses’ home.
This year’s project will first to
be redecorate the waiting room'bf
the hospital and after this has
been completed to buy some im
portant and much needed equip
ment in the hospital.
The White Elephant sale will be
held again this year, during the
first pah of December as the first
event towards acquiring funds in
the coming year.

announce an old-fashioned Hallo
we’en dancing* party to be held
Saturday evening at the armory.
Costumes will be optional for
those who attend and an award
is to be made for the person hav
ing the most unique costume on
the floor..
Music for the evening will be
provided by a hill-billy orchestra
and the program will be given
over to square dances. Dancing
will start at 8 p. m., and conclude

concerts in Sumter has been ex

bers of the board and to as many
as 50 of the members at large.

dolph Jones for boys.

the event the band came for ac
