Spring Vale Baptist church at
Lugoff has reached the goal that
it has been striving for since the
day the church was organized in
1906 and beginning October 3 will
have a full-time pastor.
The church is very happy over
this and plans have been made to
have an all-day service Sunday,
October 3 as the beginning of the
year’s work. Sunday School will
be at 11 and preaching at 12. Din
ner will be served in the church
yard at 1 p. m. There will be an
other preaching service at 7:30
. m.
Beginning October 10, services
will be held each Sunday as fol
lows: Sunday School at 10:30
a. m.; preaching at 11:30 a. nr. and
7:30 p. m.

Wings'Over Jordan
Choir Will Be In
Camden On Oct. 25
"Wings Over Jordan.” world-
famed negro choir, will be pre
sented at the Mather Academy
auditorium on Monday afternoon
October 25 at 4:30 o'clock and
again that evening at 8:45 o’clock.
The choir is under the guidance
of the Rev. Glynn T. Settle.
The Rev. Settle organized a
chorus of voices from his church
in Cleveland and first presented
It over the Columbia Broadcast
ing System network in 1937. Since
that time “Wings Over Jordan”
has carried a message of faith
and devotion to 10,000,000 listen
ers from coast-to-coast every Sun
day, and, before the war, the
British Broadcasting Company
regularly picked up the program
and transmitted it to Europe.
In addition to ten continuous
years on CBS, interrupted only by
a 10-month overseas tour for USO
Shows, Inc., Rev. Settle has pre
sented “Wings Over Jordan” in 45
states, and, through the depth of
beauty and song, has brought
closer understanding of his race
to millions in American and
Europe.
A very interesting and little
known feature of the choir is the
effort devoted by the organiza
tion toward preserving and per
petuating the sacred negro spirit
uals.
It is announced that special
seats will be reserved for whites
at both (he matinee and evening
concerts. For those who buy tick
ets in advance the price to the
matinee will be $1.20 for general
admission and fl.80 for reserved
teats. To those who buy tickets at
the door the price of admission
will be $1.90. Students will be ad-

50-Mile Bicycle
Trip Taken By
Local Boy Scouts
A 50-mile bicycle trip, taken on
Saturday, September 18, climaxed
the series of rides that a group
of Boy Scouts of Masonic Troop
54 have beat taking recently to
earn the Cycling Merit Badge.
This longest of the six trips will
be followed by three more 25-mile
jaunts.

Peebles couldn’t go because of
bike trouble, but hell take his
50-mile trip later.”
