a tea on Monday afternoon from
4 until 6:30 o clock at the Guthrie

party is an annual affair and this

A large decorated birthday cake
with 20 candles was cut by tho
charter members with,Mrs. Rich
ards cutting the first pleco.
Sandwiches, fancy iced cakes,
cookies, mints and salted, nuts were
served to the 76 mothers, special
guests and League membm.

day May I, with a large group of
boys and girls gathering at her
home. After many games and con
tests outside, the diildren were
catted into the dining room for re
freshments. The table was covered
with a lovely lace cloth centered
with a beautiful pink and ' white
birthday cake. Bach guest was pre
sented a plate with lee cream,
cookies, punch and cake which was
enjoyed by all. Favors. made of

Mrs. Henry R’ Brown (Nettle
Leese Ogburn), gave a delightful
party and miscellaneous show on
last Wednesday afternoon at her
home, 1416 Lyttleton streeL for
Mis J^e Madox, whose marriage
to FrO^erich M. Ogbum, Jr., will
be a sMial event of June 2.
As the guests arrived they were
asked to register in a Bridges Book
which was in charge of Mrs. Gary
Ogburn.
Mrs. William Oswald (Doiia Madl
dox), sister of the honoree, pinned
miniature bags of rice tied with
narrow white satin ribbons on each
guest and the bride-elects place was
marked with a green tulle bow and:
a bunch of pastel sweet peas, cen
tered with a coraage of brides roses
tied with white satin ribbon.
A motif of bridal green and
white was used effectively in the
decorations and refreshments.
The lining rom table, covered
with handsome lace cloth, was cen
tered with an arrangement of
brides roses and fern and flanked
by crystal candelabra holding
green tapers. Green and white Iced
cakes, mints, salted nuts and punch
was served. Mrs. R.' M. Denny of
Bishopville presided at the punch

Later in the afternoon Misses
Carolyn and Bara Madox, young
Bisters of the honor guest, pre
sented her with a green and white
covered laundry basket filed with
the gifts brought by the guests.
Mrs. Brown was assisted by her
mother, Mrs, Fred M. Ogburn and
Mrs. Lewis Anderson.
Bridge Clubs
Mrs. F. D. Goodale was hostess
to her bridge club on last Wednes
day with Mrs. Lewis Lee Clyburn
substituting for an absent mem
ber. Table prises were won by
rfrs. Clyburn and Mrs. George
Nicholson.
Delicious refreshments were
served before the card game and
many arrangements of summer

house.

Mrs. Jack Magee honored her
young son, Jackie with a birthday
party on last Saturday afternoon.
Twenty-five of Jackie’s friends were
entertained at the Little theater
and later at Thomas Tavern, where
a beautlfttlljr decorated blue and
white cake graced the center of a
long table. Seven title plastip ani
mals held lighted tapers on the
cake and each guest was given
poppers, a blue basket filled with
candy and a fancy hat. Blue and
white animal place mats were used
on the table and dosens of colored
balloons were used In decorations.
Fancy iced cakea and ice cream
were served with Mrs. Marvin
Davis and Mrs. William TrueOdale
aaslsting Mrs. Magee in serving.
Costume Party And
Dance Enjoyed
Cool Springs, the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Kent Miller, was the
scene of a costume party and
dance on last Saturday evening
when Miss Pheobe Miller enter
tained 20 of her young friends.

ricia Clyburn and Carol Buckley
for girls and by Raymond Woolfe,
Jr., and Red DuBose for the boys.
