W. C. McCarley, county agenL
says that the Pee Dee Experiment
Station at Florence reports that
tho bon weevil ontlook for 1948 to
jnst about as bad aa it was in 1947.
There are some 2,710 boll weevils
per acre this year aa compared to
2,904 weevils per acre last fall. If
weather conditions are normal dur
ing May, Jnne and July, the wee
vil will cause serious dsmags.
Mr. McCarley says that the sup
ply of BHC-DDT is good now but
farmers have not placed orders for
for -more than 20 per cent of the
total amount that is expected to
be used. DDT and sulfur are in
adequate supply. There will be
only 4,500 tons of chlorinated cam-
phene and 1,000 tons of chlordsne
available in the state this season.
The county agent said that all
companies state that good supplies
of all kinds of dusters can be had
now. He advises the farmers to
select and order their machines!
