Have Paper Drive
Ifembera of the Teenage can
teen will conduct a paper drive on
Wedneeday. April 2S, and they re-
quest all who have any old newa-
paptni and magazinea/ to place
them in cardboard boxee and have
them ready for the collectora.
The youngsters will canvass the
town after 3 o’clock Wednesday aft-
emoOT and they ask that house
wives have their bundles ot papers
on their porches.
The paper drive is being held to
raise money for the teen-age can
teen. A business firm in Columbia
has agreed to buy the paper and
McLeod and Boykin Company has
agreed to weigh and store the col
lection.
Also, any size coat bangers in
good condition will be gladlr ac
cepted. ^
Mrs. Furman Stokes
Died Sunday Night
Mrs. Ida Player Stokes, 99, died
at 10 o’clock Sunday night at the
Camden hospital after an illness of
ten days.
Funeral services were held Tues
day afternoon at 2 o’clock at the
Antioch Baptist church, coddncted
by the Rev. Paul Webb. Interment
followed in the cbhrch cemetery.
Mrs: Stokes was the daughter of
the late Jack and Elizabeth Player.
She is survived by ber husband.
Furman Stokes of Camden; three
sons, Clyde and Clifford Stokes of
Walterboro; two daughters, Mrs.
A. M. Rogers of Sumter and Mrs.
W. R. Small of Lancaster; three
brothers, Fate Player of Camden,
Wiley Player of Darlington and Fur
man Player of Conday, and two
sisters, Mrs. A. W. Kelly of Cam
den and Mrs. Maggie Anderson of
Charleston.

Zion cobmonity mourn the passing
of Edward E Lee, beloved tamer
of that section. Funeral rites were
held at the Mt. Zion Baptist church
Sunday afternoon, April 18. with
Rev. W. L. Carnes, pastor, officiat
ing, assisted by Dr. Robert E'Nay
lor of Columbia. Burial was in the
church cemetery. Active paln>ea^
ers were nephews of the deceased,
Elilee Pate, Arthur Brown, Ray
mond Moore, Roy Truesdale, Ralph
Lee and Billy Lee. Hononu’y pall
bearers were: C. L. Poison, B. L.
Twitty, Fred Moseley, R. B. El-i
liott, Wade Stokes, Sr., J. B. Mc
Coy, W. L. Hunnlcutf, W. T. Holly,
OOa Graham, Willie Brannon, Joe
L, Pate and W. T, Truesdale.
Mr. Lee, 58, died suddenly at
his residence Friday morning. Bom
in Sumter county, he was the son
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ell Lee.
The many friends, both white and
colored, who gathered at his b-
neral evidenced what a fine Chns-
tian life Mr. Lee lived. He was de
voted to his community, to his
family gnd to his church.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs.
Mary Marsh Lee of Mt Zion; three
sons, E. E., Jr.,/aad Thomwell ot
Mt Zion, Clarence Lee ot the U. S.
Navy; one daughter, Alva Eugenia
Las of Columbia; three brothers,
J. K. Lee and Orren Lee (d Lugoff
and William S'. Lee ot Cassatt; five
sisters, Mrs. Earl 'Truesdale ot Lu
goff, Mrs. R. L. Moore of Mont
gomery, 'Ala., Mrs. W. B. Lee of
Woodford, Mrs. Roy Buck of Co

meeting was held and Again in
1829. In 1980 the first Carolina Cup
race was presented.
The present Seaboard park and
site for the attractive ctdonial type
passenger station were gifts of Mr.
Woodward to the city and the rail
way company.
The present Woodward airpcut
was presented to Camden by Mr.
Woodward, who not only purchased
and donated the land, but also
built a fine brick hangar, graded
and seeded the flying field and also
fenced it in. f
He was of a modest, reserved
