form of government on August 1 when a Mayor and two
commissioners to be elected on the second Tuesday in June
will take office. By a ratio of 2 to 1 the voters of the city
on Tuesday adopted this form of government over the
present aldermanic form.

calla that It was taken on th* steps
of the grammar achOol building and
that Mr. Watkins, tha chief, who
lived across the street fron»'^the

a eonp plate full of Ice cream each,
saying that he wanted to see them
have all of the Ice cream they oonld
eat at opa tlma.
The department was honsed tn
the old wooden city hall building
that stood whero the present city
ball stands.

had to fight was tn 1900 when nine
wooden stores on Broad street were
burned Hie stores ran from the

struction of its projected
