Leap Year Ball
Saturday, March 13
The Leap Year Ball which ia to
be held In the Recreational Hall
at Woodward Airport Saturday
evening , March 13, promises to
be one of the most unnsual affairs
to be held in Camden in a long
while.
The ball, under the auspices of
the Camden Hospital Auxiliary, is
given annually and is one of the
most enjoyable attractions of the
winter social season. Music will
be famished by Clarence Bruell’s
orchestra of Columbia and reserva
tions may be made for tables by
calling 695-W, The Clothes Tree,
Mrs. Arden Lowndes, chairman.

Commerce Tea
Was Big Success
The Junior Chamber of Com
merce tea op last Thursday after
noon in the'Hunt Room at Sara-
field hotel was a tremendous suc-
cesE.
Over 100 women from Camden
called at 4:30 and heard J. J.
Rauch, city manager of Greenwood,
explain the advantages of * a city
manager form of government.
Presiding at the punch bowls
were Mrs. Kathleen B, Watts^Mrs.
C. G. Kornegay and Mrs, Esther
DeL. Mahaffey.
The JayCees offered free trans
portation for the tea and baby sit
ters for the afternoon. For the
benefit of those who could not at
tend this tea, the JayCees will
sponsor another meeting on March
19 In the Camden Grammar School
auditorium at 8 when K. C. Billings,
mayor of Lancaster, Lott T. Rogers,
city manager of Lancaster and Ned
Gregory, city attorney of Lancaster,
will be the principal speakers.
Legion Auxiliary To
Meet Friday, Mar. 12
The American Legion Auxiliary
will meet In the Hunt Room at
Sarsfield hotel Friday afternoon,
March 12, at 4 o’clock. Hostesses
will be Mrs. Elihu Schlosburg, Mrs.
Leon Schlosburg, Mrs. Hubert Wil
son and Mrs. F. Dess Goodale.
All members are urged to be

Following the golf toumam«tt
last Tuesday the Camden Golf
club played host to the visiting
contestants at a cocktail party in
the drawing rooms at Court Inn.
Among the recent arrivals this
week is Mrs. Marian DuPont Scott
of Middleburg, Va., who is occupy
ing her place, “Holly Hedge.” She
has as her guest, Carroll Bassett,
who will be with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Carroll P. Bassett, upon
their arrival next week.
Mrs. John R. Todd and her
daughter, Mrs. Newell Bolton of
Cleveland, Ohio, have arrived and
ure at their home on Greene street.
'Their guests, the Irving Boltons,
have returned to their home in
Cleveiand after spending some lime
here.
Mrs, Lucy Pomeroy Dean arrived

•New York.
Mr. and Mrs. Warren Smith left
last week for a stay in New York
returning here later In the month.

residence this season left for New

left last week for Nasseau after
spending several weeks here with
the Earl Potters.
The H. Granger Gaithers have
as their house guests, Mrs. James

Monkton, Md.

Miss Powers of Morristown, N. J.,
who was called here by the illness
and death of Miss Swords’ sister.
Miss Jane H. Swords, will remain
in Camden for sopie time.
Mrs.-P. Ambrose Clarke of Aiken
and Westbury, L. I., N. Y., visited
Harry D. Kirkover this week. She
and Mr. Clark will return here for
the Cup races March 27.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry P. Kendall
of Boston, head of the Kendall
Mills, 'arrived recently and are at
their place, 1818^ Pair street.
Miss Nancy Lee of the Middle-
Mirg (Va.) Chronicle will cover
the Camden Horse Show and the
race meets this month. She will
be a guest at Court Inn.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry McKinley of
Thornburg, Pittsburgh, Pa., were
the guesta, last week of Mr. and
Mrs. Wm. L Goodale, en route
from Florida. Mrs. Goodale is for
merly from Thornburg.

Following supper, plans were
discussed regarding the building of
a soft drink stand at Springdale
Race Track to be used by the
League at all race meets, the next
one March 13. and at the Carolina
Cup race, .March 27.

Have Bazaar

pies, cookies and candy beside all

holds its barbecue supper and
bazaar at the Masonic Hall Friday

Camden, announce the birth of a
daughter, Brenda Sue, on Monday,
March 8, at the Camden hospital.
The Arden Lowndes are planning
a B Y O party on Saturday and
will go on to the Hospital Auxiliary
Ball at Woodward Airport later in
the evening.

Dies On Saturday
Thomas N. Waters. 44, a retired
postal cletk, died at his home at
209 Mackey, street Saturday after
noon at 5:4.6 O’clock after a linger
ing Illness. He was the son of the
late William Waters and Mrs.
Afnanda Hall.
He leaves his widow, Mrs. Sarah
.Moseley Waters of this city; a son.

a daughter. Miss Marjorie Ann
Waters of this city; his mother,

city; three brothers, Clyde of An
