Mrs. J. L. WiUiford was called
to Woodruff last week by the
death of her mother., Mrs. J. H.
Kirby, Puberal serrices for Mrs.
Kirby were held on last Thursday.
The following dispach from
Woodruff to the GreenTille News
tells of her death;
“Woodruff and surrounding coun
try mourn the passing of Mrs. J. H.
Kirby, 90, one or ner oldest and
most beloved .citizens. Funeral rites
were held for Mrs. Kirby, a mem
ber of one of the Piedmont’s most
prominent families, on March 4 at
the First Baptist church of Wood
ruff. Officiating were Rev. Long
and Rev. Derrick. Interment was in'
Bethel cemetery.
“Mrs. Kirby was the widow of
the late James Henry Kirby, daugh
ter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. D.
Chamblin, of Woodruff. She was
devoted to her church, to the DAR
and to the UDC. She was a woman
of many admirable traits, her
friends were numerous and she was
always'bright and cheerful.
"MnS. Kirby spent her life doing
good for. others. The high • esteem
in which she was helij was'shown
by the large gathering at her fu
neral, and many floral tributes. She
had been confined to her bed for
a period of 15 mpnths.
She is survived by the following
children; Dr. Joe H. Kirby, Mul
lins; Mrs. Pred T. Walser, Ashe
ville; Mrs. Ralph Edwards,^ Spar
tanburg; Mrs. J. L. Williford, Cam
den; Miss Mamie Kirby, WoMruff,
and Miss Olive Kirby, Port Bragg,
and three sisters, Mrs. O. B. Toole,
Bainbridge, Ga.; Mrs. W. H. Mil
ler, West Point, Miss., and Mrs.
W. H. Powell, Gainesville, Fla.

week with churches, departments
of public welfare, boepltals, or oth
er similar agencies.
Miss McCrae is the daughter of
Mrs. T. P. McCrae of Liberty Hill.
