Under a bright eanshine and with
the temperature ranaing In the
80’i. the largeet crowd to gather
at Kirkwood p<rio arena In many
years saw a brilliantly playing Cam
den foursome triumph orer a rug-
ised and hard-riding gronp of sol
dier boys from Port Benning 7 to
3 this afternoon.
Automobiles from all orer the
Carolihas poured into the enclosure
starting an hour before the game,
many coming from points orer 100
miles away.
The game was one calculated to
please the most exacting polo en
thusiast. After a scoreless first
chukker, Camden broke the scor
ing ice whMi Fred Tejan dribbled
a neat shot through the poets at
the east end of the field. In the
third chukker Ekidie Tejan raised
the Camden total to 2 and that was
the count at the end of the first
hall.
The Ckmden team, with Sabin at
No. 1, Fred Tejan at No. 2, Carl
Lightfoot at No. 3 and Ekidie Tejan
at No. 4. cut loose in the second
half with Sabin scoring in the
fourth and fifth, EYed Tejan post
ing No. 2 in the sixth and Light
foot adding singles in the fifth
and sixth.
Benning was scoreless In the first
half but posted single goals In the
fourth, fifth and sixth chukkers
E7esch scored in the fourth. Smith
in the fifth and Flesch again in
the sixth. Benning had Smith at
No. 1, Flesch at Nb. 2, Beatty at

In State Tourney
TTie ’ Camden High School boys
baskeitball team didn’t win the
State AA title in the tournament
staged at Sumter last week but
they pulled the biggest upset of
the tournament when they defeat
ed a No. 1 seeded Dreher High
School quint by a Store of 31 to
28. It was the biggest upset in
cage sport in years.
On FMday erening, however, the
Camden hoys lost to Bishop Eng
land of 'Charleston after leading
that team to wHhin four minutes
of the end of the game. The fir.a*
score was 26 to 20.
Saturday night Camden lost the
consolation game to Spartanburg
High, 39 to 29.
Sumter High won the tourna
ment Saturday night when it de
feated Bishop England by a score
of 32 to 28^

Show On March 20
There s-lll be 16 classes In the
Camden Horse Show which will be
held on Saturday. March 20 at Mrs.
Marion duPont Scott’s show ring
and interest being shown in this
year’s event indicates that it will
he one of the largest shows that
has ever been held here.
The show will begin at 10 a. m..
sf.d there will .be seven classes in
the morning. A luncheon recess
will taken following the seventh
class and at 2 p. m.. the events
will begin again with eight being
listed for the afternoon
The classes for the morning are:
(1) Suitable to become hunters:
(21 Green hunters; (8) Utility
hacks; (4) Polo ponies; (6) Light
weight hunters; (6) Hunter hacks;
(7) Working hunters.
The classes for the afternoon
are: (8) Steeplechase type; (9)
Flat horse type; (10) Horseman
ship-hunting seat; (11) Local

Trinity Methodist church is pre
senting the (^aflin Singers in a
musical recital Friday, March ^12
at 8 p. m. The Claflln Singm have
been famous since the founding of
the college in 1869.. Under the
presidency of the late Dr. L. M.
Dun ton, the Singers travelled from
Maine to California and from the
state of Washingttm to Florida.
Most of the buildings erected dur
ing his i^dministration was "sung
up.” The work begun during the
administration of Dr. Dunton and
was continued through the admin
istration of the second president.

ing carried forward by the present
presidrat. Dr. J. J. Seabrook. The
entire community of Camden and
Kershaw county is Invited to hear
the Claflin Singers.
