was co-author of “Historic Cam

an authoritative addition to our
state’s records.
Mr. Kennedy was essentially a
scholar, a specialist in the history
,of South Carolina, with an astonish-
e greatly-feared schoolmaster of Jing store of information about
tebeffum Camden, and then at-|Camden, his cherished home town,
nded the South Carolina College, j He loved the finer things of life,
the University was then called, good music and pictures being his
especial interests. His keen sense
of humor was most evident when
he was among his intimates, who
enjoyed a side of his character
that was missed by casual acquaint
ances.
On December 31, 1902, he mar
ried Miss Julia Calvert Hunter of

Examinations for the position of
visitor in the department of pub
lic welfare will be held at various
points in the state on Saturday,
April 10, according to announce
ment by Mrs. Alma B. Salmond,
director of the Kershaw county de
partment of public welfare.
The position pays a 'beginning
salary of $160 per month with
regular promotions after certain
periods of satisfactory work. Ap
plicants must have completed a
four year college course, w have
had two years of college and two
years of paid employmept within
the last five years in teaching,
nursing, welfare work, or other
similar field. Seniors in college
this year may ba admitted to the
examination.
The places for holding, the ex
amination will be determined
after all applications are received,
and will depend upon the number
Of applicants from the various sec
tions of the state. Applications
