was struck by a car driven by J.
D. Swearingen of San Francisco,
Calif, on U. 8. Highway No. 1 at
Cassatt Tuesday afternoon. Both
her right arm and leg were frac
tured and she was badly lacerated.
Her condition is regarded as ser
ious. Swearingen, who was acvoin-

for the accident, It being clalm^
that the negro girl ran into the

Joe Sheffield is winner of the
President’s Cup golf event, defeat
ing Mills AUen Sunday, 4 and S,
at the Camden Country club.
Both, Sheffield and Allen were
evenly matched but Sheffield took
an early lead and maintained'It un
til the 16th hole when the match
ended. Alien played beautlfnl golf,
but he never was able to catch up
with the brilliant play of ShemeM.
’Sheffield’s score for the 18 holes
was 77 and AUen carded an 88.
To reach the finals Sheffield
had to eliminate such outstanding
golfing luminaries as Sam Boykin,
Boh Bruce. Albert Ooodale and Joe
McKain, while Allen disposed of

The fire was, with the excep

dwelling was damaged to the ex

and attracted a large throng of
spectators to the scene. The fire

Preparations are rapddiy nearing completion for the
big parade ^ be staged on next Tuesday afternoon when
Santa Claus will amve in Camden with all the pomp and
circumstance usually akin to the Christmas season in evi
dence.
^nta Claus will find an artistically decorated float
awaiting him on 1^ arrival at the fair grounds and the
parade will take off the grounds at 2;30 o’clock, Im-
mediately after his arrival.
