Mrs. P. W. D. declared that Duke
had always* been a playboy' and
to go or not to go to the wedding
would probably not occasion him
much concern. He probably feels,
she said, that as a member of the
royal family, he should go, but
on the other hand, as long as hia
family have snubbed her, one
would think that he would consider
her feelings. The Duke has been
with his own family several times
since his famous marriage and bii
wife waa never with him. So he
probably will continue to iimore
his wife’s feelings and attend the
wedding.
Mrs. B. A., who Is active In edu
cational' circles bluntly declared
that the Duke is a fool for doing
what he did. "I would suggest that

Gift of $30,000
The recent gift of $30,000 to the
forestry department 6f the Univ
ersity of the South at Sewanee.
Tenn., by an anonymous doner is
a matter of deep interest to people
Uirottgbont the south concerned
with future Applies of timber.
’The donor feels that training at
the college level it going to be
necessary before reforestation on
wide scale can be brought about
in the Bontb. Ha has chosen a
unique institution In which to carry
out hla idea. Sewanee Is one of
the traditionally classical schools
of the south. Against this back
ground of liberal arts, a forestry
program la in the process of being
developed. Sewanee Is the only
college In Tennessee offering a col
lege degree In forestry.
The small school of SOO students
is situated In the midst of a 10,000
ere domain at an altitude of 2,000
feet in the Cumberland plateau. On
U own property are more than
,000 acres pf hardwood. The stu
dents will ^ responsible for flrO'
control in the arda, will actually
engage in the management of the
forest and of the university-owned
saw mill. They will select trees
for cutting, plant seedlings, im
prove timber strains and engage in
l aboratory research under the di
rection of Prof. Charles Edward
Cheaton. a gradute of the Tate
School of Forestry.
The present gift, wblch was made
n connection with a general cam
paign f«r $5,000,000 being conduct
ed by the univeraity, will be match
ed by atf additional $7,600 from the
General Education Board, a Rocke-
eller philanthropy, which Is glv
ng Sewanee $1 for every $4 raised
n the drive. Future plans of the
'orestry department, according to
Cbeston, Include the purchaae of
wood-testing equipment, a cresot-
ng plant and a dry kiln.

Examination
Is Announced
'The Civil Service, commission
haa announced an astronomer ex
amination for filling positions in
Washlhgton, D. C., and nearby Vir
ginia and Maryland. 'The salaries
range from $8,397 to $7,102 a year.
No written test is required. The
age limits, 18 to €2 years, are
waived for persons entitled to vet
eran preference.

Commission’s Local Secretary,
Miss Ingram, located at Post Of
fice, Camden, from most first and
second class post offices, from Civil
Service Regional offices, or from
the United States Civil Service

Labor Saving Show
To Be Presented
At Armory Nov. 12
The Clemson college extension
service and the U. S. department
of agriculture cooperating with the
county and home sgenta, farmers
and local dealers will present the
iarm and home labor saving show
at the local armory on November
12 from 10 a. m., to 4 p. m.
The show is designed to demon
strate labor saving devicea for the
home and farm. Farm machinery
dealers, electrical companies, hard
ware atores and others will have
varloua displays showing the latest
equipment for doing work in the
most efficient manner. Qualified
peraonnfl in some instances will
demonstrate eny methods and ef
ficient use of this equipment
Every man. woman and child both
in town and the country ara invited
to attend. They will find It most
profitable and educational. x
A cardboard disk will he given
to each person attending who
places hia or her name and ad
dress on this disk and will drop it
in a barrel. Later a number of
thMo disks will he drawn from the
barrel and prises will be swarded
boldera of the lucky disks. Clem*
'•on and also local merchants are
giving these prises.

a dlffermt situation. The Dnke Is
a member of the Royal Family. Tha
King would perhaps consider it
an Insult If the Duke refused the
Invitation. It certainly ia an awk
ward situation."
