ures of the afternoon.

Granger Gaither and Mills Allen
have played down to the semi
event In the nppw bracket. To
reach the semi-finals Gaither de-
feated Jolly'Pltts, Bill Goodale and
Charles DeLoach while Allen won
from Vance Hough, Morty Muller
and DeLoach Sheom.
The lower bracket will be de
cided by Joe McKaln and Charles
Palmar and the match between Ab
bot Goodale and Joe Sheffield. The

championship football teams—rame
home from the "Big Thursday
Game” between Clemson and Caro
lina sounding the praises of Carol
Cox, former Camden high school
great, former all-Southera half
back and Shrine bowl star.
For It was Carol Cox, who stole
the honors in the big annual scrap
in Columbia. With less than a
week’s time, after leaving the
Marine Corps to rstura to Clemson,
Cox fitted into the football picture
at. Columbia with a precision that
was wonderful to watch. His pass
ing was effective, he completing
seven out of seven and all con
tributing to the Clemson score. In
ground offensive be was also sen
sational.
Cox recently returned to Clemson
after serving a stretch In the
Marine Corps. He made the Clem
son varsity tdam in bis freshman
year and stared honors with Bob
by Gage. Carol Is third in the
pariuie of the foiir Cox brothers
who have won fame on the grid'
Iron. Plrat .it waa Hugh, belter
known as “Sbot”. who went to
North Carolina university, then
came Didky who went to Georgia,
then Carol and right now Jimmy,
No. 4 is a star with the Camden
Bulldogs who are heading for a
state title this year. Jimmy also
plays baseball and last summef was
the ftar catcher in Junior Legion
ranks In the state. He played with
the Sumter Junior team, Camden
