Little Girl Has n
Birthday Party
Little Linda Lee Watkins cele
brated her fifth birthday with an
outdoor birthday party* at Lake
George, about alx miles from Be-
thune.
Twenty-five little friends helped
her enjoy this happy occasion.
After games were enjoyed and
playing on the eee-saws. swings
and tiidee. the children were in
vited to the table where the color
scheme ot pink and blue was car
ried out. Colorful balloons were
hung over the table centered with
a large birthday cake iced in
white with five pin^ candles.
Each little guests’ place was
marked with a pink or blue bas
ket filled with candy and blow
gum. ~
After singing “Happy Birthday”
to Linda Lee and blowing out the
candles, the little guests were
served Ice cream. Individual cakes,
pink lemonads, chswing gum and
candy.. Pink and blue horns, party
caps and balloons were given as
favors.
Mrs. Watkins was sssisted in
entertaining by the mothers of the
children. Those present, beside (he

Honored At Party
Miss Ehhel Yates was greatly
honored by the members of the
Upper.Works Club at their annual
club party, when a beautiful silver
bowl was presented to her by the
president of. the club. Dr. Theodore
Piske Savage of New York, in ap
preciation of her 20 years of
splendid work as manager ot this
club. Upper Works Club, formerly
Tahawls Club, is one of the old
est clube in the Adirondacks. It
IS unique as well as klstoric. Theo
dore Roosevelt and his family were
guests at the club at. the time
Pres. McKinley was issasainated.
The old club register relates his
hurried trip from Colden Mount
where he was fishing, to North
Creek. A special trtin was waiting
to take him to Buffalo.
Miss Tates will remain at the
club until October 1, then she will
visit New York City and elsewhere
before returning to Camden early
in November.

rerver ot August 31 carried the
engagement of Noel Lillian Gibbs
of Engtehart, N. C., and William
Habersham (Billy) Barnwell of
Greensboro, Noel is the daughter
Mrs. Seth Mann Gibbs and the
late Mr. Gibbs of Englehart. She
was graduated last June from St.
Mary’s college in Raleigh.
BUly is the son of Mr. sod Mrs.
John Gibbes Barnwell of Whitmire.
Mrs. Barnwell being the former
Meta Deas Boykin of Wannah Plan
tation, Boykin. He was graduated
in 1941 from The Citadel and
served for four years In the* army,
seeing service in the Caribbean
and Ehiropean areas. After his dis
charge be entered North Carolina
State, where he has completed the
course leading to a B. S. degree
in textiles.
Billy and Noel are planninft to
be married in the chapel of St.
Mary's school at Raleigh, October
18. after which they will live in
Greensboro, where the bridegroom-
elect is associated in business with
the Tennessee Ekistman corpora
tion.
