Carl Schlosburg told the Chiefs
up at Florence last week if they
[cnt the Red Capa loose from their
' mooring, he would treat them to
a steak and chicken feed at Ous
Wards. As the boys turned the
trick, 4 to 1, they all gathered at
Ous’ place last Thursday night and
partook of a sumptions menu,
cooked with the usual Ward skill.
If any one has any doubt of the
baseball epidemic that has gripp^
Camden the past sereral weeks,
Just let him sit in the lobby of the
Sarsfield hotel and watch Marlon
Schlosburg busy, at the telephone
answering calls from fans who seek
the score of the game.
We are happy to chronicle that
tbe effort to stage a home plate
marriage at Legion stadium this
week did not meet with success. To
this comer, and we are happy to
say, the^ publisher of this paper,
the commercializing of the sacred
sacrament of marriage is cheap and
disgust!^. We admit that it has
been done, but in every Instance,
it was cheap* tawdry publicity and
deatined only to attract a crowd
of oglers. We felt the effort.wSa
doomed to be a failure because we
could not concelre of any minister
concurring in such an event.

THE FLORENCE STORY
Here is what Roy Graham, sports
writer of the Florence News and
also secretary of the Palmetto
league, has to say about the Cam-
den-Florence game of last Satur
day;
“With defeat staring Florence’s
Red Caps in the bottom half of the
eighth, two men out, things sud
denly began to pop and Fred (Big
Boy) Holland and James (Pepper)
Martin connected with, the one-
two punch which sent three run
ners scampering home and a 54
victory over the visiting CamdMi
Chiefs
“Jack (Lefty) Clifton turned up
a neat performance giving up
only five hits, three to (Mchsr
Claud (Rock) Stone and two to
Third Baseman John McCardy. He
walked two and stmckout nine.
“Eddie Leary, Calm and good too,
waa touched for eight hits, six of
them solid, one off the shortstop’s
glove and the other a pant He
walked six and fanned four,
"Trailing 2-8 and leaving men
stranded in most innings, the Red
Caps had two out in the eighth
when things started happening. El
bert Owens worked Leary for a
base on balls and Clifton shot a
single by short Ipto left. Holland
came in to bat for Sameia and,
after fouling off fonr pitches, rifled
a hit by third into left to knot the
score as Owens scored. Curly Co
wick officially entered the game
to run for Holland and play short
“On the first pitch Martin sing
led into center by the second base-
man’s outstretched glove. Clifton
came churning home running wide-
open and Cowick, a speed demon,
was right behind him tallying from
first on the hit-and-run bingle. Jack
Schuyler walked and Jordan failed
to end the Inning.
“It was a good game from start
to finish. At the end the tans took
up a collection for Holland to show
their appreciation.
