Mr. Curdy’s Letten
‘Dear Mr. Heath:
”I am so very gisd to hear from
yon and to bring back thoughts
of those very wonderful days in
Camden—all too brief ones at that
"Tmly, but for chance, my win
ter home might well be in (^mden
for when I came south I planned
to find a place either In the Plne-
hurst-Southern Pines area, or
around Camden. In all likelihood
it was the superior hotel acscom-
modatlon of the former area which
rather fixed my activities, and
(Mosed me > to look around for a
home In that area. When it works
out so with myself, you may he
sure that I recognise the old adage
that ’A’ commuhlty Is known by its
good hotels.’
"It is most unfortunate that Cam
den does not possess a^substantial,
good, modern hotel. I feel sure djat
It would render the community a
very great service. A location for
a hotel near Springdale would be
excellent, Tor U would be a golfing
and riding rendezvous for all of
America In the spring. Such oc-
commodations would bring a mod
est annual fortune to the com
munity each year. However, for a
Canadian to consider any such In
vestment Is quite outside of the
regulations of the foreign exchange
control board. No such Investments
are possible at this time.
‘it must be remembered that It
Is not the original Investment in
a resort hotel, bu| the continued
steady operation (with possibility
of loss) which must be considered.
If there was a property In the. area
requiring expert promotion and di
rectional activity, our organ*xat1on
would be interested, and very com
petent to operate It to the i«itls-
faction of all. However, any other
project Is not posible at this time.
“I do hope that during the com
ing season I shall have the pleas
ure of sdeing you. and failing that
! hope we will meet once again at
the home of that great American
Sportsman, the man with the red
tie, the incomparable ‘Mr. Camden’
himself—our good mutual friend
Mr. Harry D. Klrkover.
“Until we meet at Springdale,
my best wishes and thank you for
your kind Interest and suggestion
regarding the establishment ol a
hotel at C^amden.
Very cordially yours,
VERNON Q. CARDY.”
