Some UOO ^ns, the largest
crowd to pack the stadium In ths
nine year history of thq basebaU
park, were disheartened at the
complete debacle that was unfold
ed before their eyes last Wednesday
nighL as the Chiefs became the
goats In a boot and slngfes^ that
saw the home gang lose a 19 to 1
decision to the visitors in two
hours of torturous competition.
Four pitchers were sent to the
^sughter agsinst the top-notch
boys from up yonder. Thigpen,
Taylor. Blalock and Bc<kt share<l
the brunt of a ssrage Sonoco slug
ging attack while their support fell
completely apart and posted 11 er

Following on tllF heels of the IS
to 1 win over the Florence Red
Cape the preceding evening, the
*nti-elimax iiroved -such an un-
savory dish that fully half of the
customers were on their way home
ward long before the final out 'lae
exodus sUrted in the fifth with
Sonoco hdlding a II to 0 lead.
It* is to be regretted that the
chameleonic.Chiefs h^ to dish up
this unfortunate menu on a night
when the area was jammed with
fans who were anticipating a
repetition of the fine brand of ball
offered up the night before when
almost errorless ball waa spotp
Bghted.
Lefty Leonard worked five In
nings for Sonoco, after which
Hendrickson took over. Leonard
gave up five hits and the lone run
of the evening for Camden. Hen
drickson was touched for three
blows, one a double by Blalock In
the four innings he worked.
Thigpen got by the first inning
through some neat fielding by Les
ter Robinson, who threw the first
three betters out at first. In tbs
eeoond inning the visitors blew the
lid off by pushing eight runs over
the pan. When the attack continued
in the third. Pop Small threw In
Taylor, who was greeted with a
home run smash by King. When
Norwood singled, ’Taylor l^t the
hOl and Blalodt took over. Joe
traveled through the third but in
the fourth the visitors again got
busy with their war clube, putting
three more runs into the recerd.
Scott was the fourth and final vic
tim and in the frames he worked
six more counters were.added to
the Hsrtsville score.
