2H In^es
A downpour of rain that for some
thirty minatM had the aspect of a
cloudburst swept Camden 'Thars-
day afternoon, depositing two and
a half inches of water over the
landscape, making rivers of streets
and lakes at low points where
stolen sewers were completely In-;
adequate to carry It off.
'The heavy downpour started at
6:26 and luted without cessation
for a half an bour^
Th;» \nei;cury which had been
resting at'a hot 95 degrees during
the early part of the afternoon be-'
gan' to skid when early showers
^nifest themselves. After the de
luge it went down to 75 degrees,
a drop of 19 degrees. The breaking
of the heat wave brought much
relief and comfort to the public.
’The hCKvy rain wu In evidence
all over this pqrt of the state, the
hour only being different Camden
people who were in Columbia were
marobneffTn'lSbres afid had to wait
long lengths of time to get to
their cars. Water plied np at street
comers, making it qecessary in
several instances to use planks to
permit pedestrian traffic.
