Thirty-five persons were killed

during April. 1147. Twenty-six of
this total occurred on state nigh-
ways. The total in South Carolina
represents a decrease of 37 per
cent over the total of 48 In Apill,
1946, while on state highways there
was a decrease of 31 rcr cent over
to the total of 84.

Planted In 1938
The vocational agriculture class
es of Camden high school visited a
school forestry planting project on
Joe Hall’s farm, 'Thursday, May 12.
In 1938-39 H. A. Small’s agricul
ture class set out the plantation,
planting 2,000 each of slash and
longleaf pine on some of the un
productive light sandy land. In
1940 the class found that 70 to 76
per cent of the trees survived.
Six pedestrians were killed and Planting was in rows eight feet

will visit Congressman J. P. Rich
ards and family. We wish for them
a pleasant trip and safe return

Thursday the-^sa found-that
these seedlings planted by a pro
ceeding class had grown to taree
or four Inches in diameter, fifteen
to twenty feet In height. There
have been no fires In the planta
tion which should be ready for a
puipwood thinning in another seven
years. Such a thinning will not
only improve the composition of
the stand but will yield consider
able income to the owner.
