Next year, with experience and

FAT STOCK SHOW IN lt4S
The (Camber of Commerce baa
announced that they will again
sponsor the fat stock show for 4-H
club and FFA boys In 1948. ThOf
boys who entered calves in the
show this year made money with
the exception of one or two. Now
la the time to begin making plana
for the show next year. Boys who
expect to feed out calves should be
gin now for making arrangements
for buying calves and growing feed,
•rhe older calves seem to have

this year.
Congratulitlons Mr. Shealy ""
The FFA and 4-H club boys who
had cattle in the show this year^
presented C. L. Shealy with an
Eversharp fountain pen for the part
tbat he played In making the show
and sale the success that It was.
Mr. Shealy contacted individuals
and meat markets asking them to
go to Columbia and purchase
calves that were grown in Ker
shaw county. As a result of this
work the calves that were sold
from this county brought on the
average more than any other coun
ty represented at the sale.
Annual Grazing Crops
Now Is the time to begin mak

farmers are well pleased with the

In com the past winter. All people
who have-beef cattle would do
well to plant some velvet beans
with corn thinking more of produc
ing velvet beans than corn for their
grating next winter. People who
have hogs would profit by planting

Tears sf Belladss
Early legends which accounted for
the origin of amber sound fantastic
to modem ears. The bast known,
t^t given in Greek mythology, is
that amber is the tears ol Use Ha-
lisdes. The Haliades were the sis
ters of Phaeton who after Phaeton's
disastrous attempt at driving the
sun’s chariot were changed into pop
lar trees which ever since continu-
ally weep tears of amber.
