LET THE CITY WAKE UP
Ls the.- city council going to sit supinely back and
await the ma/ming or death of’some citizen before it
takes action for a cleaning up of the tree situation in
Camden?
The high/wind of last Tuesday, breaking off heavy
limbs and ibranches from scores’ of trees about the
city served to make all people conscious of the fact
that here is a hazard that may bring serious injury or
death to/a citizen.
Eveiy person in Camden senses the fact that a
city wide program of-tree inspection and removal of
the m^ace arising from rotten growth is necessary
if the present menace is to be eliminated.
For several years this has been preached. Half
hearted efforts backed by much bally-hoo have been
in ^dence. But they proved mere flashes in the pan.
When some one is killed, some one else will say^

It happened again! A disaster
within the Kershaw county Red
Cross chapter's Jurisdiction, at
Cassatt, 3:32 a, m., March 22. The
Sun Queen derailed and wrecked.
Red Cross headquarters.were open
ed. Mrs. Dorothy Smith, secretary
and home serrice chairman on
hand, officers and committees noil-
fled. The vice chairman, Mrs. i«eon
Schlosburg, visited the wreck and
sent about hO telegrams for pas
sengers and listed the names in
case inquiries came to headquart-
ers. Mr. and Mrs. Clifton McKaln
and Mrs. Eugene Moseley, canteen
corps, served six gallons of coffee
to passengers. Mrs. John Wall and
Miss-Eleanor Smith also assisted.
Ambulances and nurses were also
in attendance. Harold Punderburke,
chairman of chapter, is In New
York on business. Southeastern
area in Atlanta was notified %

drive. So many children are deprived of the proper
medical o^surgical aid because of the lack of funds

From Blaney Home

Belton, 80-year-old negro, are wor
ried of his disappearance from his
home near Blaney on March 12
They fear that he has wandered
into some obscure area and has suc
cumbed.
Belton, who was known to all
his acquaintances as “Uncle Louis",
was verging on feeble-mindedness,
It Is said, and his physical condi
tion was poor.
Anyone knowing of the where
abouts of the aged man are request
