was held in Columbia Mondajr and
Tuesda)r, March 17 and 18.
Qen. Lewis B. Hershey, dirsotor
of selectlre serriee, addressed a
gathering at (he Jefferson hotel,
Monday Night, Mvch 17. Following
the address by ‘Oen. Hershey, a
ball was girmi by the Ilegion for
members and their wlvea The
Woman's Auxiliary was the guest
of the Legion for the dance.
On Tuesday morning a confer
ence of post senrlce officers was
held in the Jefferson hotel. Appear
ing as speakers at the meeting were
Dr. Orin F. Crow, Columbia, edu
cation; James Lindsay, Charleston,
community senrice and youth ac-
tiTiUee; Ira A. Cox, RusseUTUle,
boys state, and D. W, McFayden,
Florence, sUte chairman of Legion
Junior baseball.
The program was further high
lighted by the attendance of the
National commando rof the Ameri
can Legion, the Hon. Paul Griffith,
of Pennsylranla, and the National
president of the Woman’s AuxiHuiT.
Mn. Norman H. Pearl. Both were
guest speakers at a joint luncheon
of the X^on and Auxiliary at the
