and tho advent of the Hotel Ssrtfleld.
This sign was put in place last Saturday afternoon in front of the
hotel building. And Saturday found the hostelry In charge of the Schloe-
burge, with Leon Schlosburg as realdont manager.
The day marked the end of a aevontoen year administration of the
Stems family. It was In 1930 that J. Arch Sterne, with his wife and
daughters opened the Hotel Camden. Mr. Sterne, a moat personable host
passed away in ItSt following a pnaumonia attack and tho remainine
eleven years the hotel has been operated by Mrs. Sterne and Mr. ancf
Mrs. Jack Nettles Mrs. Nattlee yraa formerly Maxine Sterne.
During the Sterne administration
toe hotel was toe focal point of
many activities of a civic natum.
During the war years it was haven
for fathers, mothers, sweetheartn
of aviators in training at the Sonth-
em Aviation school here, who came
to Camden to see their “boys" who
were learning to be airmen.
The hospitality of Mrs. Sterne
and Mr. and Mrs. Nettles wan
known far and near. When the pres

secured lodgings for transients te

During December, 1946, there
were no fatal accidents of any Wnd
on the state or federal highways
of Kershaw county, according to
a report just made public by the
state highway commission.
During too month five non-hital
accidents reported by state high
way officers. These five together
wito eight whww property damatpe
was involved, gave the county a
total of II accidents for the month.
BIghty-oeven persons were killed
as the result of motor vehicle traf
fic accidents In ths state during
December. Flxty-alx of this total
occurred on state highways. The
total In South Carolina represents
an Increase of 9 per cent over ♦he
total of 80 In December, 1946, while
on state highways there was a d^
crease of 9 per cent over the total
of 81. ^
