Club Holds Banquet

den and D. W. Hughey of Columbia,
which took plaos at 4 o’clock Sun
day afternoon, December It, at the
^me of the brMs’s sister, Mrs. B.
ll Brannon. The Rex. Dennis An
derson was the officiating minister,
the doable-ring ceremony being
used.
The Towgjrers spoken before an
improTlsad altar decorated with
Southern smilax, palms, ferns,
white gladiolas and lighted candles
in candelabra.
Just before the ceremony AIto
Stokes and Carl Stokes lighted the
candles. Mrs. Wniie Tiller ^yed
the traditional wedding marches.
The bride’s only attendant was
Mlsa S^relyn Kelly of Greensboro,
N. C., and Little Teddy Crolley of
Lancaster, neidiew of the bride,
was the ring bearer.
The bride was given in marriage
by her father, W. L. Stokes, Sr..
She wore a light blue crepe dress
with black aecessories. Her cor
sage was a white orchid. She was
met at the altar by the bridegroom,
who entered with P. G. Walker of
Columbia, who served as best
man.
Immediately following the cere
mony a reception was held. A triple
tiered wedding cake flanked with
ferns adorned the lace covered
table. Cake and punch were served
to the guests by Misses Betty West^
Virginia Stokes, nieces of the
bridd, and Miss Kathleen Hughey,
sister of the bridegrooni During
the evening the couple l^t for
their wedding trip to New York.
Mrs. Hughey is the daughter of
W. L. Stokes, Sr.r5f Camden. She
received hef education at Camden
high school and Draughon’s Busi
ness* college in Columbia. She now
holds a position with the National
Council of State Board of Engin
eering examiners of Columbia.
Mr. Hughey is the only son of
Mrs. Frances A. Hughey of Colum
bia. He is now atending the Uni
versity of South Carolina.
The Chi Kappa Chi, better known
as the Kershaw County Clemson
club, was honored at Ous Ward’s
with a colorful banquet Friday
evening, January t.
The president of the club, "Bob
by*’ Watson of Blaney, was toast
master and greeted the members
and their guest. A response was
given by R. A. Hall of Camden, who
entertained, the group.
The club was honored with the
presence of one alumni Harold
Baxley of Kershaw^ who gave a
short address. After this brief pro
gram dinner was served.
'The menu consisted of Wards’
famous potato salad, shoe string po
tatoes, milk and hot coffee, hot
oven-baked rolls, slssllng steaks
and country fried chicken.
The dining hall was trimmed
with s colorful paper of which
symbolised - the colors of Clemson
college.
The table was trimmed with
purple and gold streamers running
full length. The decorations com
mittee; of which J. D. Watson. Jr.,
is chairman, 'iras in charge of the
decorations.

Huckabee of Columbia, spent the
Christmas holidays with their
grandmother. Mrs. M. G. Huckabee.
During the holidays Mr. and Mrs.
Norman Huckabee went to Arling
ton, Va,, to wislt Mrs. Huckabee’s
brother, M. J. Hagood, who is Just
back home from China. Also visited
her uncle and auxt. Col. and Mrs.
Monroe Johnson in Washington.
They had a delightful trip, although
the roads were frozen over with
sleet And snow and found driving

A large delegation of our citl-
sens attended a meeting Tuesday
in Columbia of bus officials in the
interest of the proposed bus line
from Great Falls to Camden and
Columbia through Liberty Hill. Our
cltisens were accorded a free trip
and a hotel dinner by tlm pro
moters of the line. A lot of infor
mation and detail* wm brought
out and discussed by the officials
and witnesses in reference to tM
matter, but qur delegation had to
leave before the prooeedings were
flnallj closed, so did not get the
final conclusion the meeting.
Our people much interested In the
establishment of the line. It wUl
be a great additton to our traveling
public and help develop some of
our unused Isnda
