Who’s Who Ot the horse world.
Miller and his famous horse be
gan their Jumping careers almost
tdmultaneouil^. During a winter
▼isit to Aiken in 1940, he met and
became a good friend of Thomas
Hitchcock. His respect and admira
tion for the old gentleman was
each that he decided to go into
this buslnesi of racing steeple
chasers, and furthermore, he made
i^p his mind to begin with a Hitch-
cock-trianeOorse.
When Hitchcock passed away
in 1141, his estate offered his
horses for sale at Pimlico. Miller
had seen a horse named Biidlespur
training at Aiken the prerlona win
ter, and decided to run orsr and
bid on him. When be arrlred, how*
erer, he learned that Brldleapur
had suffered a bad fall recently
and was far from the same horae
he had seen working ont in Aiken.
A carefal check of the other horses
disclosed Elkiidge, and Miller's
lore for the little fellow began at
sight, and from the way Bferldge
has performed for owner Miller
during the past four years, many
say that feeling must hare been
mutual.. At any rate, he outbid
the Brookmeade Stables, as well as
an agent of John Hay Whitney, and
acquired his ttrot Jumper for $T.OOO.
The ’Ridge’s record since that
date indicates he was well worth
the purchase price:
