After a short business session fol
lowing the ritual, a tribute to tho
memory of a loyal and valued mem
ber, Miss Sarah Mickle, was given.
The regent then presented the
speaker of the aftmnoon, AUison
DuBose, who gave an interesting
and thought provoking talk on
Charles Pinckney, an unappreciat
ed statesman of South Carolina,
whose genius was overshadowed by
others in the lime Ught of that day,
and yet one who had no peer.
Quests of the afternoon were the
teachers in the schools and mem
bers of the tJDC. Mrs. Allison Du
Bose was also welcomed. Visiting
DAB are always invited to attend
the meetings held the third Friday
of each month. Thb name of Mrs
Atkinson of Hagood was proposed
for membership and unanimously
received. Hostesses of the occasion,
in addition to Mrs. Marvin, were,
Mrs. Tindal, Mrs. Davidson, Mrs.
Guy and the regent. The chapter
was unable to arrange for a float
for thc^ parade on account of short
ness of, notice.

played softly during the ceremony.
The vows were spe^ea before a
backgrouml of lace fern and Sou
thern amilaz with a center arrange
ment of white chrysanthemums and
gladioli flanked by seven-branched
candelabra holding cathedral tap
ers.
^e bride, who was given In mar
riage by her father. Dr. Carl Alek-
ander West wore a wedding gown
of .white cob-web lace and net the
fitted bodice was of lace and the
lace sleevM ended In Cilia Illy
pcAnts on her wrists. The finger
tip veil of point d'esprlt was worn
with a coronet of starched lace, and
held In place with clusters of
orange blossoms. She carried a
bride's bouquet of white roses
showered with tuberoses and step-
hanotis.
Mrs. Samuel Boykin, the former
Miss Paulette West, only sister of
the bride, was mAron of honor.
She wore a gown of bridal pink
nylon taffeta with gauntlet gloves
to match and a coronet hat of brid
al pink net Her flowers were an
old-fashioned bouquet of shell pink
gladioli and blue gypeoptUa edged

The bridesmaids were: Mias
Ma^uwt Scheper of Beaufort
Miss Nancy Nash of Samter,
Miss Byrd MurrAy of Sumter and
Miss Sidney Jones of Ciamden. They
wore Ice blue nylon taffeta gowps,
fashioned of net matching their
gowns. Their bouquets were Identl-
cal and were tied with blue rib
bons.
The bridegroom had his father,
Kirby Smith Tapper, as kis best
man. Ushergroomsmen were: iU-
bert OUphant o< Chester, William
V^on of tkunden, Henry P. Smith
of Charleston and Charles B. Boln-
eau of (Columbia.
Mrs. West mother of the bride,
was gowned Itt a floor length dress
of grey-gmn crepe with a shoulder
corsage of American Beauty roses.
Hwr accessories were of dull gold.
Mrs. Tupiwr, mothw of the bride
groom, wore a gown of see-epray
green and black faUle taffeta and
her flowers were a corsage of
American Beauty roses. She wore
an antique brooch on a black vel
vet band around her neck and
opera length white gloves.
A reception was held Immediate
ly following the ceremony At the
home of the brlde^s parents on
Sarsfleld avenue. The entire low^
M* floor wSs thrown ensults and
many artistic arrangementa of An-
tumn leaves, bronse udl yellow
chrysanthemums were used.
Tile bride's table was covered
with an Imported point de France
cloth and graced with an antique
silver epergne filled with white
roses, tuberoses and pom-poms
with two three-lmttehed silver
candelabras holding- white tapers.
At one end of the table was a three
tiered wedding cake and at the
opposite end of the table coffee
was poured from an exquisite sil
ver service by Mrs. J. L. Williford.
Mrs. C. B. Bolneau, Jr. and Mrs.
Wm. Wilson. Jr., served punch In
the drawing room and Mrs. Mattie
West presided In the ^ room.
The jroung couple left.immediate'
ly after the reception by motor for
their wedding trip, after whl^
they will be at home In Chester.
For traveling the bride wore a
black gaberdine tailored suit, with’

and Mrs. Kirby Smith Tupper of
Chester, formvly of Camden. His
mother was Mtou Clara Careton.
He attended the Citadel and ihe
United States Naval Academy at
Annapolis, Md., now associ

popular young ladieo.
Mr. Outlaw to the son of Mrs. E.
D. Outlaw of Sumter and the late
Mr. Outlaw. He received hto educa
tion in. the Darlington city schools.
He was a staff sergeant in ttie
USA for four year and 10 months
and served overseas tor S8 months
of that time.

their home in Sumter where he to

The attention of the mayor waa

den club, the clnb claiming that
