Thompson After an extended lllneei Jamea William Thompson passed away at the Camden hospital at B:4fi last Friday afternoon. lie was bom in Lancaster county, son of the late James R. and Martha Williams Thompson, both members of old and honored families. Surriring are his wife, the former Dora Ammons; two daughters. Mrs. L. H. Jones and Mrs. H. C. Al* i ready orer 20 floats have been en- Ben DeLoach To • Appear In Concert For Junior League Camden’s own golden-voice hari^ tone, Ben DeLoach. wiU be the ai^ tist to appear on the next program to be sponsored by the Junior Wel fare League, the famous singer to appear in concert at the grammar school auditorium on the afiemoon of December 22. . Mr. DeLoach was one of the out standing U80 entertainers during the last war and was the first con cert artist to be sent overseas. He went over the^ Alaska highways through Canada U Fairbanks where he spent six mouths singing to troops in every pa rt of Alaska. While in Australia he sang com msnd performances at Admiralty house for Mrs. Winston Churchill and General MacArthur who had given his services to the governor general who had made the request. Incidentally the piano that he had been using for concert work In Hollandla was blown to pieces- by Jap bomba. In February, 1945, Mr. DeLoach went to Elngland and began a toqr that lasted 18 months and covered alt of the European theater, all of Africa, India, the Philippine Is lands and China. He sang three shows a day for six weeks in Normandie for 90,000 American boys released from Ger man prison camps after V-E day. He was entertained at Windsor Castle in London by, Earl and Lady Oourie, former governor general of Australia. He waa also entertained by the Pasha of Marakech in Morocco. While in Rome in 1945 Mr. De Loach studied under Giuseppe (le Luca, the famous Italian baritone.
