starts. Everyone is praying that by
some stroke of good luck there may
be tome bacon available.
Nearly all of the shoppers are
womea and they certainly look wide
awake. Some of them feign Indlffer
once. Some show up in trim suits
or dresses. Others are In slacks and
sockaand hair ribboni. They push
through the 'aisles in the stores,
chat with one another^ giggle.over
colllalons and in general have a
ducky time.
But they do not find bacon and
only by luck are they able to ob
tain soap. Toilet soap is available
more often than laundry soap. And
then there la sugar. Some days the
stores have it-r-the next day It has
gone.
In the polished refrigerated cases
are displays of cottage cheeee,
Cheddar cheese, fish and chicken.
Native beef is also In evidence at
times.
Cereal Is quite plentiful and a
majority of the shoppers buy it.

stack groceries in brown bags-

In the chain stores Is heard the
