fyrilowing hard on the heela of the
IP to 1 defeat handed to the Sumter
Ftshateera on Wednesday of last week
those rampaging White Sox, looking
more and more like their American
Legion namesakes poured it on a
scrappy Florence team, 14 to 8 -on
I Thursday, making their total of rune
for the two games 24 as against 8
'scored by their riTsls.
Taylor was on the mound for the
Sox and outside of three frames he
was in trobble, but some fine support
runners on third and second and none
out was nipped when Parmer struck
out the next man up. A runner was
put out on a elose and loudly protest
ed decision at home and a grounder
from short to first retired the side.
The above story is the telegraphed
report of the Hartsvllle-Klngstree
game at Kingstree last Saturday
night. Reports given by several out
of town spectators at the game are
at variance with the Kingstree report.
They assert that homeTumplrlng
robbed Hartsvllle of a ninth inning
win. They also report that the at
tendance figure of 3,600 was greatly
exaggerated, that if there were 1,800
present, that would be putting It at
a top figure.

which with two errors by the visitors
and some smart base rnnning by tbs
home lads netted nine runs.
That fifth Inning rampage meant
the end,of the reign of Mr. Cox, thu
Florence starting pitcher, and ho
was followed by Synder who was
given a choice going over in the
seventh when two hits, two errors
and a walk netted three more count
ers.
The Camden ontfleld, especially
Robinson and Chandler, brought the
fans to their feet rooting* like mad by
some spectacular stabs of what look
ed . like certain extra base clouts.
Cbandler, . who had been elected to
pitch bnt bad to forego the etfmt
because of bavlug given a blood
transfusion late the day b^ore had
taken Sowell’s berth in right when
the Utter'was injured in sliding into
the bag after he had tripled to
far center. Robinson raced from cen
ter into short right to make a one-
handed sUb of a Texas leaguer that
was labelled a dough t for certain.
Leading.^ in the Camden slngfest of
19 blows were Les Robinson with 8.
WaUie Mims with 3, Bill Mims with
3 and Sowell with a screaming three-
sack wallop. Benny Robinson, Hayes
and Taylor all gathered two blows.
Taylor had five atrtkeouU and flTS
walks, three of the free tickets com
ing in the eighth when he issued
passes to the first three batters to
face him. Cox had one strikeout and
Snyder four. Each walked a batter.
One of the prettleet pUys of the
afternoon took place In the first In
ning when Billy Mims and Bobby
Wilson pulled a double steal that
cangbt the opposition flat-footed and
scored Mims. *
From over in Blshopville came dls-
qnleting informataion prior to the
Csmden-Florence game. The secretary
of the Palmetto league notified the
Camden team management that un
less Camden paid a fine of 1100 for
failure to appear at BennettsviUe
Monday evening 'that the directors of
the league had voted to exp^l the
team from tbe loop. The fine was
paid to the BennettsviUe club, but
Camden baa demanded a hearing
which Waa to have been held this
week.

Dr. Bruce called attention of the
iMgue secretary to the errors and
was told that the Monday. June 24
date that oalled for Camden to go to
BennettsviUe was In error, and that
Sumter was to play in Camden tbati
date. Apparently BcnnettsviUb was
not notified and when Camden failed
to make i^pearanoe at that city for
the game, BennettsviUe raised merry
hell and took the matter to tbe direc-i
tors of the league at a meeting held!
at BishopvUls. The' league secretary, |

he alone was responsible and not
Camden was not present st tbe meet-i

team.
If the Palmetto league is to survive
another year there will have to be
some changes. The league lacks prop-
!er organisation.this year, a sharp con
trast to the efficiency that prevailed
in the loop prior to the war. League
officials cannot prcfvlde team stand
ings and so tar as we have been able
