Jones, who is in charge of Navy Recruiting in this area, that three men from Camden were enlisted in the navy during the first half of March. Chief Jones stated the response of men to the navy’s call has been very gratifying but many more men are urgently needed to man our large peacetime navy and he urges all men between the ages of 17 and 30 to contact a navy/ recruiter at their earliest convenience and learn of the many advantages and opportunities offered in the peacetime navy. Men on first enlistments are of fered fifty different trades to choose from as well as travel, education and g^ pay. There are still quite a few mites •open for re-enlistment and men who re-enlist within 90 days from date of discharge will be paid |50 per year shipping over pay as well as re ceiving their same rate held at dis charge. There is a Navy Recruiter at the Post Office in Camden each Thurs day from 10:00 a. m. until 4:00 p. m. Those enlisted from Camden were: James Lorick Corbett, RFD No. 1; Robert Michael Bums, RFD No. 1; Perry Eugene Lloyd, Hermitage Mill. FINAL DISCHARGE Notice is hereby given that one month from this date, on' April 20 1946, O. R. Crow will make to the Probate Court of Kershaw County his final 'return as Administrator of the estate of John H. The broadcast was sponsored by the South Carolina State Board of Health. Dr. Humphries took the role of Dr. Ashley, Mrs. Carolyn Parker as his secretary. Miss Jackson; Mrs, John Henry McDowell as Mrs. Roger Wil son while Don Morrison appeared as Roger Wilson. Capt H. A. Small Is Confined In Texas Hospital Captain Huian A. Small of Camden is at William Beaumont General Hos pital, one of the army’s largest, at ei Paso, Texas. Before his entrance in the service he was the4 County SuperaVlsor of Vocational Agriculture. He was in ducted at 8L Petersburg, Floi^a, August, 1942, and served overseas from May to June pf 1945, in the Philippines. He wears .the Asiatic Pacific 'Theater of Operations Rib bon, the American Theater of Opera tions Ribbon, and the Victory Ribbon His unit was the Air Forces Over seas Replacement Department. A greater part of the city was with out electric power for several hours' when a big tree a^the comer of Rut ledge and Market struts was uproot ed by the mle and in falling tore down several of the'power lines. Main, street stores were obliged to operate without lights while both theaters were compelled to call off their afternoon matinee shows. Street traffic lights were out of service and aa a result there were many traffic snarls. The storm was general all over ^is part of the state. In a remote-aeoCion of Lugoff township a house on brick pollars was blown from the supports and carried scmie six to eight feet. No one was reported injured. Scores of |rees were blown down in this same area, it is reported. In many parts of the area the wind reached tomadic proportions and in some instances many buildings Ibst their roofs, others were blown down and the destruction was quite severe. The heavy rain Saturday afternoon prevented any fifing activities at the Camden Golf club and again on Sun day the Kicker tournament that had been scheduled had to be abandoned. Vicious Hail Storm Acccmipanies Monday Downpour A storm of generous dimensions and accompanied by a downpour of ball swept the city, shortly after 2 p. m. Monday. The storm came out of the west and like the storm the Saturday pre ceding featured heavy gusts of wind and a torrential rainfall. ’The wind veered to the south, bringing a mark ed drop ip the temperature causing windows and windshields on auto mobiles to become costed with mois ture. Streets ran like small rivers, the water piling up over the curbing and backing up out of storm sewer man- boles as the pressure mounted. Tbe polo game, planned for 4 p. m. Monday again had to be postponed as the field- was soggy with water. The storm- lasted less than half an hour, ending up as abruptly as it started. Several residents of the Kirkwood Heights area exhibited hailstones about half the size of an ordinary chicken egg, which had fallen in their yards. The gronnd at one time was white with the icy pellets.
