Plan Fashion Show The Women’s Auxlllsur of Grace Episcopal church will sponsor a “Fashion Show” in the parlors of (Jie Court Inn on Monday, March 4. The show is to be put on by Razook, proprietor of a style shop at PinehuTst. Fifteen Camden girls will appear as models of spring and summer styling at the affair. The auxiliary women are to serve tea. Announcement of the hour (rf the show and further particulars, in cluding ames of the models, will be made next werit. Admission to the show will he |1. PAGE FIVE ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED Plan Flower Show The Camden garden club corially InvitM the public to a flower show, March the 14th. By courtesy of Court Inn management, the party will be held In the garden and under the collonades of the Inn—rain'or shine. While more in the nature of a spring festival than of a formal flower show, prizes will be awarded for the classes listed below 'and a cup for the outstanding exhibit. People inay exhibit whether or not they are members of the club and it is not necessary that one grow the material offered, it may be begge4, borrowed or bought To compete, each exhibit must be entered before noon. An exhibitor may enter in ais many classes as he likes but only one totry In each class. The show will open at 2 P. M. and close at 7 P. M. Tea will be served and punch. Tables may be engaged before hand. Flow ers also will be s(dd. Class A—Artistic Arrangements: Miniatures—^not over three inchee; from three to twelve Inches, and from 12 to 24 inches. Arrangements are to cnsist of flow ers of foliage or a combination, to be judged for originality, perfectkm of material, snitability of container, color and composition. Class B—Flowering shrubs in tall containers.-to'be judged as Class A. Class C—Still life. In shadow boxes borrowed from the club (apply to Mrs. Marvin). To be Judged for the originality and simplicity with which the idea is depicted, for composition and color scheme. To be judged for relation of ma terial to entalner, for skill in oom- btning dlffsrsnt kbades and textares of green^ nnd for freshnses Lions Ladies Night The Camden Lions club held*- a ladles night meeting at the Sarafield club last week Thursday, with all members, their ladies and severalr^*** Khrkland poured tea. Invited guests being In attendance. AU ladies were presented with a red and white carnation corsage. The president of the „ Lions club, Fred West, opened the program by having all present join in the singing of “America”. Following the invoca- tlon by Lion J. F. Moody, a dinner of roast turkey and all the trimmings was served in the aviation room of the club. " Special guests for the evening in cluded Rotary President S. C. Cly- burn and Mrs. Clyburn; Kiwanis President W. C. McCarley and Mrs. McCarley, Lion J. D. Dinkins past president of the Sumter Lions club and Mrs. Dinkins, Heyward Sniith, secretary of the Sumter club, and Mrs. Smith; all being'introduced by President West. The meeting was turned over to the chairman of the Ladles Night com mittee. Ken Brown, who called upon the assemblage to sing “Let Me Call You Sweetheart”. The gathering then adjourned to the Essex room of the club for a full evening of games and entertainment The door prize, a Valentine cake donated by the (Jamden Home Bakery was won by Lioness Mrs. R. J. Hunt Prizes for the games were donated by the Ci^den Food shop and the Christmas'and (Jhristmas market. Music for the evening was furnish ed by the Sarstield duo. The pleasant evening came to a close with the singing of “Good Night Ladles”. of New York, who is visiting her daughter. Mrs. J. L. Kbr^Und. Mrs. 4 4 Surprise ‘ douse-warming On the evening of Feb. 14, a num- i>er of friends and relatives of Mr, ind Mrs. T. C., announce the engage ment of their daughter, Marjorie lAcllle, of Camden and Washington, D. €., to Thomas J. Salane, son of Mn and Mrs. Charles Salane of New Ycnrk City. The bride-elect graduatsa from Wintbrop College. The bridegroom- elect is a graduate of Pratt Institute of Arts. The wedding date is to be announced later. Was Musical Feast A Surprise Dinner The Methodist women of Camden are to be commended for sponsoring the fine concert given by John Rich- vds McCrae and Miss Margarette Richards at the grammar school aud itorium. That so many people attended the concert is an indication that more eiUertalnment of this type, would be a^reclated. Mr. McCrae is a young singer - of unusnal promise. He has a rich bari tone voice whose interpretation, enounciation and dramatic ability make him comparable with the met- ropolitan singers. He has the gift of poise and naturalness blended with god looks, all of w^ch are pleasing to any audience. His program was well balanced and well chosen, the first section being of a more serious nature while the last group wfts of a lighter being. Camdenitee who have long loved Hie eolorfnl and tuneful spirituals of the negro were perhaps more appre ciative of this group. It was in De Glory Road that Mr. McCrae’s dra matic ability was at Its best." Hie audience reacted enthusiastically, bringing him back to the stage tar several encores. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Mayer enter tained at a surprise dinner last Sun day of honor of the latters father, Mr. John Ellisor of Blaney, 8. C., who was celebrating his seventy-first birthday. Mr. Ellisor was remembered with many lovely glfta. The table was centered with a large birthday cake topped with eeventy-one candles. A delicious din ner was enjoyed by many friends and relatives of Mr. Ellisor.. No leas accomplished was ' Miss Richards who so ably accompanied Mr. McCrae at the piano. She played two Chopin selections, displaying a great deal of technical skill. She Is not only an excellent accompanist but an excellent pianist. * Both she and Mr. McCrae are grandchildren of the late governor Richards ef Uberty HUl. Teas and Parties The Wednesday Afternoon bridge club was entertained last week by Mrs. Clifton McKain. Mrs. R. B.^ Steyenson and Mrs. John L. Team' were high score winners for the afternoon' AfCpr bridge the hostess served dellclons refreshments. Mrs. W. L. Wright entertained the members of the Thursday Afternoon bridge club at her home on CTbesnut street. A prise was kiven at each table, winnefs ^Ing Miss Ethel Yates, Mrs. Henry Carrison Mrs. Hoyt Rock- afellow, and Mrs. Thomas Ancrnm. After tbs games refreshments were served with Mrs. Rockafellow presid ing at the tea table. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Goodale were hosts at a drop-in party for about fifty guests on Sunday afternoon hon oring Mr. and Mrs. Robert Halter of Newton, Pa. The house was beauti fully decorated with mixed flowers. Mrs. Clarkson Rhame poured coffee and Mrs. N. R. Goodale served tea. Mrs. Grajrson Shaw and Mrs. Marie Haile also assisted the hostess in serving. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph N. Shannon entertained at a buffet dinner on Tuesday evening honoring the birth days of W. L. Goodale and Ralph Shannon. The Shannons’ guests were Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Goodale, Mr. and Mra. Grainger Gaither. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Taller, Mr. and Mrs. William Langley, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Whit aker. ‘ Mrs. Richard S. Kirk gave a de lightful party last week celebrating the third birthday of her little daugh. ter, Harriet, liie children played games and contests and Barbara Cantey and Suzanne DuBose were winners. After the gamee the chil dren enjoyed ice cream and cake. V Munn--^Nelson Engagement Mrs. Bessie D. Munn announces the engagement' of her daughter. Betty to John Eklward Nelson. Jr., of Buffalo, New York. ’The wedding will take place in March. Miss Munn Is the daughter, of the late Henry B. Munn and Mrs. Munn of Camden. Mr. Nelson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Nelson, Sr., of Bul^o. Captain and Mrs. N; V. Hawley gave a delightful iparty at their home on Tuesday afteimon complimenting Mr. and Mrs. Dixie Boykin. Latmr in the evening the Hawleys and their guests went to “Sarafield” for dinner and dancing. Mra. R. E. Stevenson was hostess on Wednesday morning to her bridge cl^b.
