Utett Test WiU Tdl ST. lAUIS.—Scientists have de veloped a dye that within 60 seconds can prove whether a “cold" is due to infectimi by common cold germs or to allergic irritation, according to Dr. French K. Hansel of St. Louis. Dr. Hansel described the dye be fore a meeting of the American Pub lic Health association. The dye is used to stain a sample of nasal dis- iSiarge containing tiny particles. The particles turn blue if they are germs and red if the irritotion is due to allergy. Confusing the two afflictions dur ing treatment!may be harmful. Dr. Hansel said. The dye also is used in diagmsing sinus infections. He said about 12 per cent of the children who have chronic cof^s and bronchitis suffer from allergy rather than mfections. Arnett Judge of Probate for Kershaw county Relief At Last Kenosha, Wit.,.Begins Mental Hygiene Clinic A mental hy^ne clinic has been set up for benefit of Kenosha, Wis., residents by the city council and the board of education, the Ameri can Public Welfare association re ports. Operated one day a week, the psychiatric service will cost the city $1,000—this cost shared by the coun cil and the school board, with the latter given jurisdiction over the clinic. fo charge of the clinic is a psy chiatrist ud»o directed the Peoria, ni., mental hygiene clinic held twice weekly last year. Under an ar rangement with the Kenosha county medical society, the psychiatrist may engage in private practice in Kenosha after clinic hours. Office hours for the clinic, held every Monday, will be from 9:30 a. m. to 4:30 p. m. Ml Kenosha conununi^ welfare ^gencies are co-operating with the clinic in re ferring cases for study, and ap pointments are made through these agencies. There is no charge to the public for the service. To stimulate interest in the proj ect, an educational program in men tal hygiene is under way.
