I was lucky receiver of one
of the useful “ditty’’ bags you peo
ple prepared. They were distribut
ed to us on board the U.S.S. Acon
cagua as we left the Los Angeles
harbor at San Pedro last week.
After a seven days voyage, we
are here at the Air Corps replace
ment depot near Honolulu await
ing assignment to air bases in the
Southwest Pacific.
Believe me, we G. I.’s are appre
ciative of the work of the Ameri
can Red Cross — its truly s bit of
home away from home!
So, to behalf of many, I send you
our grateful thanks.

community program. These gift boxes

paperback novel, small atlas, comb,
chewing gum, hard candies, milk
chocolate, and cigarettes. Patients
will awaken Christmas morning to
find stockings and gifts.
In order that the men may make
their own Christmas, supply kits con
tainlng wrappings, decorations, and
other materials are being sent, to hos
pitals and recreadon centers where
community programs can be arrang
ed. In addition to, wrapping paper of
several colors and ribbon, these kits
will contain phonograph records of
carols. Red paper bells will be-to
eluded for decorations, and the men
will be supplied with dyes and brushes
so they can make some of their own
