Elihu was chief com mlssary steward and was at the scene of some of the major engagements during the Pacific activities. He will be affiliated with his broth, era, Leon and Carl, in the manage ment of the Sarsfieid club, the Ocean Strand hotel and in the plans for the building of tbe Klnir Haiglar hotel. Tbe crews are being organized throughout the coun ty and each will be equipped with a set of hand fire fighting equipment, consisting of a pump, rakes and swat ters. Ranger Smith pointed out that the responsibility for suppressing wild firee rests with the individual land- owners. The Kersliaw unit, consist ing of a ranger, three wardens and five towermen cannot possibly serve as a fire suppression unit..,.. It does and will assist landowners suppress most wild fires, but cannot do the job alone. Therefore the co-operation of all landowners Is necessary If wild fires are to be prevented. Landowners everywhere can help to prevent wild fires by observing tlte following rules: 1— Burn only early in the morning or late in tbe evening. ( 2— Clear around the area to be burned. r 3— Have help available and burn a little at a time. 4— Burn against the wind. Tbe County Ranger says that bis men do and will help. landow'ners with their fire problems. Towards this end volunteer crews are being organized, trained and equipped to handle fires on their own and their neighbor’s property. The crews will be strategically located so that the equipment will serve a whole com munity.
