Brothers Meet
In Far Away Land
Curtis Player, S1-C, and Pvt. W,
P. (Billy) Player, sons of Police Of

Manila, Philippine Islands, recently.
It was the first time they had seen
each other in over a year.

and later the Pacific theater of war.
Pvt. Billy Player entered the ser
vice in Feb., 1943, and took his basic

has been In the Pacific theater for
about a year, being attached to the
Army Signal Corps.

Grocery stores and liquor stores,
the book store and a majority of the
barber shops are to continue the
Wednesday afternoon closing, accord
ing to a bnUetin issued ^m the
Chamber of Commerce office.
The department stores, dime stores,
clothing stores, ladies shops will not
close Wednesday afternoons and will
observe the following hours, I a. m.
to 5:30 p. m., Monday through Friday
each we^ while on Saturdays the
closing hour will be 7 p, m.
’ Hardware stores wlU open at 7:30
a. m. and close at • p. ^m. Mondays
through Fridays and on Saturdays
the hours will be from 7:30 a. m. to
7 p. m.
Furniture, stores will open Mondays
throuidt Fridays at 8 a. m. and close
at 6 p. m. On Saturdays the closing
hour will be 9 p. m. The book store
will be open from 9 a. m. to 1 p. m.
and 2 to 6 p. m. with exception of
Saturdays when the store will be
closed in the afternoon.

George Carney, professional at the
Charlottesville, W. Va., Country club,
will take over the duties of club pro
at the Camden Country club on or
about Nov. J.
Carney has a good record as a
golf instructor and will be at the
local club throughout the winter sea
son. It Is also stated that he ‘will
open a shop for the sale of golf
equipment at the local club house.
Carney has been pro at the Char
lottesville elub for several years, it
is said.

mond, proprietor) have stopped to
look at the unique display that is
featured in the window.
Mr. Salmond has arranged a plat
form upon which a minature poultry
yard has been laid out. And in this
area are many little chicks. White
Wyandotte to be exact, running about.
A brooder, with one side open for
obsei^^atlon, has been installed and it
is under this canopy that the chicks
gather at night. During the daylight
hours they are busy at the tiny water
tank or feeding troughs.
Cassatt News Items
Mr. and Mrs. James West had the
misfortune of having their home with
its entire contents burned Tuesday. It
caught from the stove flue. ^Ers.
West was alone when the house
burned.
Mrs. Nettles Myers and son of Nor
folk, Va., are visiting their parents,
Mr. and Mrs. J. B. McCoy.
Sgt. J. R. Teal of Camp Butner, N.
C., is at home for a short stay.
Misses Sarah June Rosier, Betty
Jene McCaskill and Hilda Allen, fresh
men at Winthrop college, spent the
week-end at their homes here. Miss
Allen is Betty Jene’s roommate.
Pfc. J. W. Buchan has been dis
charged from the army and is ex
pected to arrive from Sacramento,'
Calif., this week to be with his wife
and son, who live^wilh her parents.

Mr. and Mrs. Steve Perry of Miami,
Fla., visited Mr, Perry’i^ sister, Mrs.
J. B. McCoy, and family Tuesday.
Wilson Mosler, Jr.,. who has his
discharge from the army air corps,
is with his grandmother, Mrs. C. A.

Pfc. Cecil Bowers of the Marine
corps, in Quantlco, Va., is spending
a few days with his parents, Mr, and
Mrs. Steve Bowers.
The Kershaw Baptist association
met with the Baptist church here
Tuesday, the 9th.

lumbia. spent Sunday with their par
ents, the C. L. McCaskills.

Miss Lois Scott of Columbia, be
came the bride of M,-Sgt. Gene Para-
S ore on the evening of Sept 30, at
e home of Rev. A B. Anderson of
Dothan, Ala.
Mrs. Paramore is the daughter of
the late .Mr. and Mrs. Gordon A.
Scott of Dothan, Ala. She. attended
the Dothan High school, and before
coming to Columbia. she was in
charge of the Children’s Home of
Camden, (pr a number of years,
M,-Sgt. Paramore is the son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. George Paramore
of Dothan. He also attended the
Dothan High school. He enlisted in
the army in 1930 and has spent some
of the time in foreign service.
After a brief wedding trip to Pana
ma City, Fla., M.-Sgt. Paramore will
return to Camp Rncker, Ala., and
then will be ‘going overseas. Mrs.
Paramore will return to Columbia,
where she is employed in the office
of Dr. John H. Toung as secretary.
