The streams by which this section
is bound on all sides, reached record
flood stace last week. The Lynches
rirer trestle between Bethune and
McBee was completely corered with
water.

Pisgah section of Kershaw county,
died Sunday afternoon at the l^esby-
terian hospital in Charlotte, N. C.,
after a brief illness.

Mill, the Misses Stella and Evelyn
Whitaker of Mt. Pisgah. Pvt. John

1946 Crop Loans
Are Now Available
Emergency crop loans and emerg
ency feed loans for 1946 are now avail
able to farmers in Kershaw county.
Applications for these loans are being
received at Camden by L. J. Hook,
field supervisor of the Emergency
Crop and Feed Loan Division of the
Farm Clred.it admlnlatratloQ. ’This
early opening of the loan program in
Kershaw county is for the benefit of
those eligible farmers who need fi
nancial assistance to meet the emerg
encies resulting from the recent storm
and flood, as well as to provide funds
for financing the normal fall and
early winter crop and feed require
ments of farmers who can establish
eligibility, Mr Hook said. As in past
years, these loans will be made to
farmers whose cash needs are rela
tively small and who are unable to ob
tain from other sources, including
1o<'rI banks and production credit as
sociations, loans in amounts adequate
to meet their needs.
Mr. Hook pointed out that eligible
farmers desiring to do so may apply
now for loans to take care of their
crop production needs for ^he entire
1916 season IxMins may include im
mediate advances to the borrower to
meet his cash requirements this fail,
land the balance of the approvp<l
amount, of the loan will he disbursed
when the borrower needs it to finance
his spring crops.
Mr. Hook emphasized that these
loans are not restricted to selected
applicants but are available to all
farmers who can establish eligibility
according to the terms of the loiin
regulations and the authorizing act
of Congress.

Red Cross Notes
Before war activities were over, the
Red Cross here in our owu Southland
was called upon for one of its major
duties in peacetime, disaster relief.
Workers in Florida area will be busy
relieving the homeless and destitute
for months to come, the same call
came from Kingstree, and the floods
in the Fayetteville section of North
Carolina, are keeping the Red Ooss
on the job day and night. Camden
WHS forunate, but tihe Red Cross
chapter was alerted, and had disaster
overtaken us, would have been pre
pared to meet the situation. Thanks
to the fine committee of which Col.
John 'Wall is chairman.
'The A R. C. central committee has
authorized the distribution of certifi
cates and Insignia to volunteer and
paid workers who have served Red
Cross qhapter during the second
World War.
Certificates will be presented at
such time as chapter deewns appropri
ate for faithful and meritorious serv
ice within the period beginning Jan.
1, 1940 and ending when the war
closes. (1) Volunteer workers who
have served 200 hours or longer; (2)
Paid workers who have served 12
months or over; (3) Other volunteer
or paid workers who in the judgment
of the chapter executive committee
have given effective service of special
significance in leds than 200 hours
for volunteers or less than 12 montha
in the case of paid workers.
Insignia (pins for women and but
tons for men) may be purchased by
members of the above classes of Red
Cross workers as soon as material for
mass production is available.
According to Mrs. John W’sH, chair,
man of volunteer services, our chap
ter has accepted as hospital quota of
25 pairs of bedroom slippers. 25 hot
water bottle covers, and 100 infant
slips for foreign war relief, besides
Quantities of wollen articles to be
knitted. The war is not Over as far
as the Red Cross is concerned, so
come and help.
