fng committees are being appointed
by the president for the purpose of
considering immediate and future
proMems within the scope of the
Chamber of Ootnraerce.
Several of these committeee have
been previously announced. The three
committees appointed and notified
daring the past weMc are: The Com
merce and Trade committee, of which
Mr. A. C. McKahi is the chairman;
the Transportailon and Communica
tions committee with Mr. R. M. Ken
nedy, Jr., ss chalrmaB. aad the
Tourist and Sports committee, ot
which Mr. Haivy D. Kirkover and
Mr. H. Granger Gaither are co-chair
men.
Quite a few requests have been
filed at the Chamber office recently
regarding the year-round dosing of
sfbres in Camden on Wednesday af-
gsmooDs. Many of the merchants
teem to be in favor of adopting this
plan and it has been referred to the
Commerce and Trade committee* for
detailed consideration. Its adoption
wUI. of course, require coordinated
action by all of the merchants con
cerned.

plantation by Mr C. M. Leonard of
Leonard „ Coiuiruction company, has
been a soorce of much Interest local
ly. The merging of Chancefield and
Sunny HiU plantatkm, which Mr.
Leonard has owned for many years,
repreaenta one of the larger land
holdiaga to thia area. According to
Mr. Dixie Boykin, local repreaentative
of the Leonard Oonstruction company,
one million pine seedlings will be
planted on the combined plaotationa
this year. The estate will have three
houses for rent this winter and plans
are being made to build several more
on the lake front for sale or rent
during 1946. Plans to raise thirty
thousand turkeys for sale annually
are also being developed for appllca-'
tion In the near future.
