the new sports annonneer of WI8?
Gene used to pitch for the Columbia
Reds in the Salley league and even
had a tryont with the Cincy Heds. But
Gene had a physical handicap and had
to give np the game. He worked to
a number of mens shops to Columbia
and now is doing the sport casting at
WIS. In the past nine years we hare
known and liked all the sportsman,
nonneers on WIS. They wA-e swell
fellows and did a lot to promote the
Camden sport events, l^m Jim

eon of Logott, has received an honor
able dlsdmrge after fonr yeaft and
four months of army service* He re
cently returned to the atates from
36 months of overseas duty.
CpI. J. C. Hinson has recently re
turned to the states from 10 months
overseas and to now spending a 30-
day furlough with his wife, the form
er Vera Mae Anderson, and his little
danghtw, Ltoda Sue, of Cassatt. •

ware of Camden, 8. C., route 1. He
has been in service since Dec. 10,
1043, and has spent 16 months in the
Enropenn thentor.
Nathan D. Williams of route 1,
Ridgeway, son of Mrs. Hasel E. Wil-
lisms of that address, and who has
been in the armed sen’icee since
April, 1942, has receiv^ his honorable
discharge and to now on his way
home. He received two combat stars
in the Asiatic area fighting and one
in the Philippine liberation actvity.
He also has a good conduct medal and
a presidential citation.

Funeral seryices for Raymond
Truesdall Lee7S3. who dle<l in Oteen.
N. C.. Saturday morning after an ex
tended illness were held at Towan
Presbyterian chapel. Luaoff. at six
o’clock Monday •afternoon. Interment
was in St, John's cemetery.
Mr. Lee was a corporal in the U. S.
Marine corps band for nin^ years,
serving in Hawaii and China.
He is survived by his father, John
K.. Lee, Logoff, aud his step-mother;
two' brothers, Capt. John Lee, serving
in the Pacific, and Capt. Ralph Lee,
serving in the European theater;
three sisters, Mrs. J. B. McNinch of
Columbia, Mrs. J. T. Graves of Barn
well, Mrs. Watson Starns of Wash
ington, D. C.
Services were conducted by the
Rev. A. D. McAm with the Rev. Paul
Scott assisting.
Active pallbearers were A. H. An
derson, J. W. Rabon, Wm. Lee Sand-
Lugoff; Robert Bruce, of Camden.
Honorary pallbearers were L. I.

recently. In the first inning Char
lotte came to the bat, the visitors
scored 9 runs before getting a hit—
among other thingb Hartsville’s pitch

We hear that Lancaster Highs have
hopes of maktog a cleanup of Ctmden
Highs and a few other aspiring foot
ball teams that are on the Lancaster
schednie. Lancaster opens the eeasca
with Clover High Sept. 21, and has
Rock Hill, Pageland, Kershaw, Darl
ington, Chester, Btohopvllle, -Union
and Camden, on the program. Camden
plays at Lancaster Nov. 16.
