has come as a shock to Camden peo
ple, as the map Indicates that Cam
den is not on any trunk highway, but
more on a branch that runs from
Bishoprllle through Columbia *nd
then along U. S. Highway No. 1 to
North Angnata.
There are two north and aonth
rontes shown on the map, one going
out of Lanrinburg, N. C., through
Bishoprllle, Sumter, St. O^rge and
into ^rannab.
Another route from Tryon, N. .C.„
comes down through Spartanburg and
Columbia and thence to Cbarlestsn.

It la believed here that a route
should be provided from Charlotte
south through Lancaster, Kershaw,
Camden, Orangeburg and Bamberg
and then southwest -to the Georgia
line. This would give the most direct
north and south route through Sooth
Carolina.
The fact that Camden is the leading
resort and sport community in South
(Tarolhu makes it doubly hard for the
people to understand why the city is
not placed on a through highway.
