Tecb. Sgt. Theodore Rabon, son of
Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Rabon of Lugoff.
and the only sanrivor of his tank crew
has Just returned from overseas duty,
having served 2€ months of combat
duty.
Sgt. Rabon was a member of the
76th Tank BatUllon of the ^th Army.
He imrtlcipated In the North African
and Italian campaigns and fought In
the battles of Napes-Foggis. Rome-
Amo. Northern Appennines and the
Po Valley campaign.
Sgt, Rabon was awarded the Bronie
Star, Ramet Service medal, American
Defense Service medal. Good Conduct
medal and the France Unit citation
of the Croix de Guerre with the
Vermillion Star.
Having served in the , Army 44
months, Sgt. Rabon has received an
^honorable discharge. He has a broth
er, Jack, who has served In the Aleu
tian islands for the pakt two years.
Camden baseball fans are going to
get their baseball menu, come what
may. There were some scone of local
fans In the grandstand at Suratav- last
Wednes^y night when the Sumter
and Charleston Junior Legion teams
battled.

close and exciting battle at Cheater
last Friday with Chester winning 1 to
0. Chester’s score came In the third
inning with two men down. Sistare
of Lancaster, pitched three hit hall
while Holt of Chester was nickM for
six blows.

been oversees for the past 12 months

on a SO-day furlough,'at the expiration
of which he will return to Fbrt Bragg
and await further assignment

land, Belgium, Holland. France and
Germany. He is now with his wife
and family at their home in DuBose

tered the Chester Juniors 18 to 1.
Pelter defeated Ptedmont lS to 9 in
a free for all in which 11 errors were
chalked np. Sumter defeated Charles
ton 9 to 1 in a romp. Spartanburg
defeated Clover 18 to 0, while Colum
bia trounced Lancaster 15 • to 2.
Spartanburg county team, dropped a
3 to 2 decision to Anderson.

shaw county Jail where shortly after
he was quizzed by Deputy Sheriff
McLeod and Deputy Sheriff Wade H.
Rawllnson, the latter of Richland
county.
Ralinson’s presence in the case was
due to the fact that the assault had
occured near Pontiac in Richland
county. Evangelista admitted the as
sault and told the officers that he was
a discharged war veteran add waa on
his way to Tennessee. He saM he
hitch-hiked a ride with the soMler
from a point in Tennessee. Both
officers were of the opinion that it
was his purpose to get possession of
the car, and that this was the cause
of the assault.
Thirty minutes after they had quisz-
ed Evangelista, the two officers re
turned to the cell and found the man
had bung himself.

that an inquest would be held If and
when the Injured sergeant is able to
appear as a witneas. The deputy
sheriff believee that ENangelista has
a police record and has a hunrii that
there may be some startling devalop-
ments In the case when the report is
received from the P. B. I. The deputy
Is an accredited P. B. I. agent for thia
county.

discovered that one of the Mitertaln-
ers was his coosin, Benjamin De-
Loach, baritone, also of Camden.
" Ben DeLoach, when last in Camden,
had been told that Sgt. Tlndid had
been killed in action su'd he could
scarcely believe his eyes when the
yonng man brushed up to the plat
form and called to him.
They enjoyed a pleasant reunion
and saw each other frequently before
Sgt 'Tlndal sailed for home and Mr.
DeLoach had aet fokh into Germany
with his show.
Sgt. Tlndal, a gnnner in Uie 810th
Boom group, was shot down in Sept.,
1944, and was s prisoner until lest
April. He has since rejoined hie wife
and mother In thia city and upon
completion of his furlough will go to
Miami, Fla.
Mr. DeLoach arrived in England
last March after enterUlning soldiers
In Australia and New Gninea for 'll
months and In Alaska for six months.
He arrived In France the latter part
of April.
