The coordination of engineering

operations officer.
Lt. Ratcliff arrived overseas in
May^ 1944. Joining bis unit at Hoi-
landia, Dutch New Guinea, five
months later he moved to the Philip
pines. A-Day plus 2 found him in the
thk-k of the Leyte campaign.
l|j>on accepting his commislon as
2nd Lt. in July, 1943, after training
at Clemson college, he received fur
ther training at Porta Monmouth and
Belvoir and the Aberdeen Proving
Grounds. His gold bar turned to
silver In January, 1945. when be was
promoted to First LI.
