The certification exercises for the
High school class of Home Nursing

hospital will be held, if possible, on
May 23. ^
Mothers Day At
Service Mens Center
Mothers Day at the Service Mens
Center was a delightful day. although
due to Its present limited space a
special party as of last year could
not be planned. During Ae day some
fifty odd service men wandered in
and out of the Center using its con
veniences and accepting its hospitali
ty. They were made welcome by the
director, and by the ladles assisting
her. During the afternoon hot coffee,
doughnuts and cakes were served.
Special entertainment was furnish
ed by Tom Goodale, talented son of
Captain Edward Goodale, how over
seas. Tom d^ighted the music Idvers
by bis rradkion of many lovely dlks-
slcal pieces on the piano. Upon being
urged by the men and ladles, Tom
promised to come again and play for
the enjoyment of the Center.

Commander Shannon Heath was ap

meeting and will take over his duties

Mrs. Frances Koeth of Atlanta, a
newly appoint^ member of our nu
trition service field staff, will visit
the chapter May 21 and 22 and will
meet with Miss Daniel Hinson, chair
man of nutrition. Miss Fewell, whose
work in nutrition In the county has
been outstanding, and Dr. A. W.
Humphries of the HeaKh department.
Mrs. Koeth is a nutritionist of wide
exi>erienoe. Following her graduation
from Georgia State college for Wo
men, Mrs. Koeth took student training
in dietetics at Flower-Fifth Avenue
hospital in New York City. After‘com
pleting the Interneshlp she Joined the
dietetics staff of the hospital where
she served for seven years. She is a
member of the American Dietetics
asaociatiou. American Home Ek:onom-
Ics association and during her real-

Georgia has been affiliated with their

JOIN DUKE TEAM
After currently being reported as
having enrolled In tbe University of
Georgia, North Carolina University,
Clemson. Ted Marshall, six foot tackle
bn the 1946 Camden Bulldogs, S. C.
state champions, has let it be known
that he will J enter -Duke University
next fall.
Marshall, who with Carol Cox, were
the Camden representatives on the
8. C. AU-8tar team that defeated N.
C. laat December 6 to 0 at Charlotte,
wag the player who paved the way for
the Sandlapper’s winning touchdown.
Marshall, playing tackle for the
Palmetto eleven, broke through to
block e North Carolina punt, the ball
being picked up by another Sandlap-
per who raced for a touchdown.
It became known here tbls week
that Marshall was tendered a fine
propositiOD by Notre Dame, but elect
ed to attend Duke. Carol Cox, Harry
Gandy and Harmon Hancock, three
other members of tbe 1946 title team,
all have enrolled at_ Clemson.
Marshall will not only prove a real
find for the Duke football mentors,
but the youngster will also fit into
the baseball picture, as he has been
outstanding as a high school and
Junior Legion player.* He plays the
outfield and is an excellent hitter.

GRAMMAR SCHOOL PROGRAM
Tbe graduation program of the
Grammar school will be held Tues
day, May 29, at 11 a. m. in tbe Gram
mar school auditorium. The program
will open with the singing by the
grammar school chorus of Ruben-
steln’s “Hear Our ^ayer.” The pupils
of 1-B will offer a playlett, “’The First
Flag.” after which there will be tw,o
readings, "Book House,” by Molly
Sheom, and ‘The Road to China,” by
Jean Britt.
Supt. J. H. Richarda, Jr., will then
announce the honor roll after which
the chorus will sing, "Hark, Hark The
Lark.” The pupils of 7-0 will then
offer a pageant, “Pattern of’Peace,"
after which Mrs. Kathleen Watts
