typical of the many asked me from
week to week. Behind each lies the
instinctive desire of all human beings
for self-protection.
Before entering upon an important
venture—and certainly before bnylng
any stock—it ia imperative that you
know yourself. Self-control, patience
and courage are essential to success.
Have you the self-control to follow
a strict investment policy? Do rumors
and minor fluctuations fall to sway
you? Have you the patience to hold
your funds liquid until a real bargain
comes your way? Do you resist Jump
ing into a bull market in the hope
of scalping a few points profit on the
advances? Have you Ihe epurage to
buy when the news is pessimistic and
everyone about you is selling? Will
you sell when stocks are on the up
grade and everynody la talking about
the new highs to be reached?
If yon can answer “Yes” to each
of jLhese questions and if you have
some extra money to invest, you have
the attributes for becoming snccess-
fnl. Then you can determine your
own particular needs and select
diversified group of securities which
will meet these requirements. After
you have purchased your securities,
do not be concerned over day to day
fluctuations. Avoid Jumping from one
stock to another in the tu^ of pick
ing a few points profit here and
there. Do not follow the crowd. Al
ways bear In mind that In finance the
herd instinct la fatal.
Before bnylng any stock you should
decide whst yon expect of It In the
ease of the man who has sold his
buitness, the chances are that he
will lrant*to own stocks that will ap
preciate In value. Therefore, he would
do well to buy into a young Indus-
try—possibly telerision, plasties or
electronics. To the elderly -couple
who want income, I suggest “Series
O’* govemnient bonds and the securi
ties of well-established companies
with a good dividend record and a
promising future. To the young per
son who has Inherited the $6,000, I
say, “The stock market is no royal
road to easy money. A horse race
would be Just as good a bet and might
prove more esciting!”
The Investor should carefully study
the trend of the market and the «.>nt-
look for the Industry Into which he
plans to buy. This shows when to
buy. He should next analyse the
various companies ih that Industry.
He will then select that company
which is making the most progress.
This company need not necessarily be
the largest In ita field nor, perhaps,
the oldest, but it must be well man
aged and active. Pay particular at
tention to the personnel. Remember
that the iuture of ©very company will
depend upon the charaefer of the in
dividuals who control and manage It
Approach the stock market in an
Intelligent manner. Follow the lead
of snccessful institutions and buy the
securities they buy. You can de
termine this by studying reports of
insurance companies. Learn to swim
before venturing into deep water and
above all be wary of tips from well-
meaning friends. Even in the rare
instancea where such a tip makes
good tempOTarily, it usually leads to
loss in the end because it is based
on ephemeral rather than fundament

men’s Service guild of Grace church
lave arranged a most unique and in
teresting project to become effective
Sunday, April 82, at Grace Episcopal
church.
This project Is' in the form of a
nursery school which will be in ses
sion every Sunday morning during
the hours of the main service in the
church and will provide for tho care
of little tots whose mothers wish to
attend the church service.
This is a program that has worked
excellently In many churches where it
has been put into operation and has
resulted in greatly increased attend
ance of parents at church services.
Mothers will be able to leave their
children in charge of competent young
women who will have charge of tbjs
nursery feature. The young women's
group were responsible for the recent
successful baby show at the Grac
church- parish house.

Notes
The currrat shortage of books
seems not to have affected our County
library. In fact it seems to be grow
ing by leaps and bounds. Recently It
became necessary to build new shelves
to house all the new fiction and non
fiction. The new shelves are located
in the hallway where they are easily
accessible to alL
Recent and readable among the new
non-fiction is Bennett Gerf’s Try and
Stop Me. This book is true escape
literature for the ration harried house
wife, for the war weary veteran, it is
several hours out of the world.
Escape literature naturally has its
place but it is necessary for us, as all
Americans, to be better informed
about events In the Americas. 'Virginia
Prewett has written Im authoritative
and accurate estimate of the future of
the western hemisphere in The
Americas and Tomorrw. Reading the
book broadens the outlook of the
average American and ancourages
better understanding of our fellow
Americans.

In Collision Tues.
A school bus' carrying pupils' from
the Malvern Hill area and a station
wagon of the Bradley EUectrio com
pany collided at the turn in the road
in Ldurens court Tuesday morning.
The fact that the vehiclee were mov
ing slowly at the time prevented any
one being injured.
The collision occurred at a bend
in the highway and the drivers claim
ed that the high shrubbery along the
outer side of the road prevented eltbw
seeing around the bend.
Supt. J. G. Richards’ stated later
that the shrubbery would be cut down
or ellralnsted entirely, thus removing
sny further hasard to aUto traffic.
