up the premises. The station and ad

painted and the grass plots neetly
trimmed.
The Sinclair Station, recently taken
over by C. E. Watts, and located at
Market and DeKalb streets, under
went a transformation recently when
the new management did a fineyjob
of renovating both inside and out.
The place presents an attractive and
neat appearance now.

Whitaker and Co., now located in
their new quarters, on East Rutledge
street, have greidly improved tho
premises and also added an addition
on the east side of the original build-
ing. A neat sign stretches across the
front of the building,

The home of Frozen Foods, Inc.,
formerly the old armory, is spic and
span In a new coat of white paint.

Reed Earratt's laundry and dry
cleaning establlshn^nt was in ths
hands' of painters recently and the
offices have been brightened and
freshened-by a new covering of paint.

Street Commissioner Jim Raley has
his new, street sweeper in operation
and Camden streets are beginning to
look spic and spam. It was impos
sible to keep the sand and dirt clear
ed away with brooms and shovels.
The new sweeper does a fine Job.

One of ths most attractive pictures
we have to look at is the gardening
effort of Mrs. A. C. McKaIn, Hamp
ton avenue. The McKaIn home Is
dlhlctly across the street from that
of your Skipper and th« riot of color,
fine arrangements, etc., in evidbnce
in the McKaIn garden is a delight to
the eye.

Lee Myers, a city councilman and
chairman of the fire commission of
the .city, says that the mizup regard
ing the hose connections at the fire
in the north end of the city recently,
was due to the carelessness of the
hose manufacturer in sending hose
with couplings other than the stand
ard type. Meedless to say, the hose,
1000 feet of it, has been sent .back.

Myers says he believes that the
error was just one of those so com
mon now because of inexperienced
help In manufacturing plants. “The
city has purchased hose from that
outfit for many nuiny years and nev
er had any trouble before,” said Myers

Painters have been laboring on the
building occupied by the Service Mo
tor Company, C. O. Stogner, Sr., man
ager, and the J. Manley Smith gro
cery store. As a result the two estab
lishments have a greatly improved ap
pearance.

■Even the city has the paint-up and
fix-up fever. The wavering messy
traffic lines at street intersections
have given place to well painted
straight lines.

Now If tho light and water depart
ment would put some paint on the
rusty, weather beaten light standards,
things would be greatly improved.
Fire hydrants also need ar coat of
paint. We suggest "these hydrants be
palbied fire department red.
Seaman Melton Is
Back In The States
Mrs. David Melton, the former Sara
Rambill, received a.-telephone call
from her husband, S 1-C David L. Mel
ton, Jr., who has been on convoy duty
with the U. S. Navy Atlantic
for the past six months and who is
now in New York. Seaman Melton
was unable to say whether he would
have an opportunity to come to Cam
den on furlough or not.. He stated
that he is in fine health.

BOY SCOUT TROOP 64 MEETS
'Troop 64 met Wednesday night at
the troop meeting room In Masonic
building. For opening ceremony
at 8 o’clock, Frank Babbitt led the
troop in the Scout oath and law. The
patrol meetings were held and the
roll was called. The Scoutmaster
next gave some notices to the boys
and then made a speech on different
articles. We had a test on artificial
respiration and Harmon Collins was
the winner. The Scoutmaster and
his, assistant spoke on our coddlrct
next Wednesday and on Sandy’s unl-
forih. Sandy led In the Great Scout
master’s Benediction.
