The January meeting of Hobkirk
Hill Chapter DA.R., held at the home
of Mrs. Harry Marvin, on Rectory
Square, was well attended. Mrs. R
C. vonTresckow, Regent, presided.
Mrs. John Wall, Flag chairman,'gave
interesting data about the new Flag
Code and Mrs. Montgomery’s report
on the Junior Citixenship Clubs in
the schools was most encouraging.
These young oitlxens conduct their
own meetings in the most approved
style and are preparing to be the vot
ing citizens of tomorrow.
The most outstanding pupil, Tglrl),
in the high school is selected by the
vote of the student body and is named
for the statewide contest for the
D. A.R. Pilgrimage. Her name is put
th a hat with those from all 'schools
in the state. The State Regent, blind,
folded, draws out a name and that
student is declared winner, formerly
a trip to Washington to the D.A.R.
congress. ‘ Nojr that no Congresses
are held a bond of |100 is given the
winner instead. Mrs. Dempster is the
chairman of this committee and the
name of Miss Rozler has been sent
from the Camden high school. The
drawing in Columbia took place on
February 8, and it is hoped that a
Kershaw County girl will win.

he is a prisoner of the Germans. Ho
was reported missing In action on Oct.
10. Pvt. McCoy was serving in the
Infantry with the Third Army.

Rural police officers arrested two
men and lodged them in the county
Jail to await arraignment on charges
of bootlegging.

Stokes, colored, was arrested at hla
borne on the Horace Ives farm, charg
ed with storing liauor. „
The Sherifri office announces that
the automobile belonging to L. M
Davis and stolen from in front of the
Ivy Lodge Monday night, was found
by coon hunters in a dense wood in
the Flat Rock aection. The car was
undamaged. A soldier was seen leav
ing the viclpity of the wood earlier
and it is believed that he was re-
sponaible for the theft of the car here.
