l^c. Darid Tompkins of this city,
has established somewhat of a repu
tation as a direr.
This young man. who took his
dlring training at Fort Screvin. Ga.,
was the only direr in his unit that
finished with a high rating as a first
class diver.
He commands one of the hlKhest
salaries paid to divers and is now sta-
tinned at Fort Myers Beach, Fla. He
secured his training under government
regulations. He has a<,record of 40
hours under water and a diving mark
of 150 feet.
The pay for divers ranges from 1300
to $600 per month. The work that
I’fc. Tompkins is engaged in offers a
fine opportunity for salvage- diving
after fha war. *

the late B. F. Boulware and Mary Mc-

She is survived by her husband,
Jasper McLain Gettys; four sons.
James Riley Gettys J of- Hartsvllle,
Jaaper McClain Getiya, Jr., of Cam
den. Donald R. Gettys of Knoxville,
Tenn., Hugh McMaster Gettys, captain
in U. S. army in Belgium; three
daughters, Mrs. M. A. Clyburn of
Camden and Betbune, Mrs. C. A. Jolly,
Jr., of Augusta, Ga., Miss Mary Alice
Gettys of Camden, and a number of
grandchildren.
Surviving also are three brothers.

was heard over the air in a broadcast
from England Sunday, Dec. 3. at 10
a. m.
Several persons who heard the
broadcast declared that Bill, who Is a
combat engineer, was Interrogated by

duced and asked to give his place of
residence named Camden, S. C.
Billy Is the second oldest of the
Mullens trio of boys anu during his
irranimar and high school days hr was
an outstanding athlete, excellent in
football and basketball.

Wounded In Action
Mr, and Mrs. T. E. Goodale, Lyttle-
ton St., have been notified that their
son. Sgt. Alfred Goodale, has been
wounded in action In Gennany.
The war departtneht repolt states
that the wounds are slight, which is
good news to the family and friends
of the yopng man. The wounding took
place during fighting near Luxemburg
on Dec. 9.

Funeral services will be conducted
at 3:30 Friday afternoon at Lyttleton
Street Methodist church in Camden,
by the pastor, the Revj H. F. Collins,
