the grip of King Boreas for the past
week, with temperatures ranging down
as low as 23 degrees.
Wednesday mo.-ning the reading of
26 degrees did not coincide with the
prediction made by the weather‘fore
casters that a low of 16 or 18 would
be registered.
Tuesday morning the temperature
minimum reading waa 30 but most
citizens declared it was colder than
on WednMday. The penetrating chill
of Tuesday was due to the high cold
gale of wind that prevailed.
There was no promise of rising
temperature until the end of the week
In the northern part of South Carolina
snow fell on Monday and Tuesday
while in the north a heavy snowfall
was in evidence all over the midwest
and the eastern states.
Down In Miami the temperature

of Commerce sunshine broadcasters to

Typhus Control
Program Progresses
Thirty-four Camden business estab
lishments have been, rat-proofed dur
ing the typhus control program of
the City of Camden and the Kershaw
County Health department. The aver
age cost for each establishment has
b^n slightly more than $31.50. These
figures were announced recently by
Dr. A. W. Humphries, director of the
local health unit.
This work is done by a trained city
consfnietion crew under the immedi
ate supervision of members of the
United States Public Health senrlce
An eetlroate of the cost of labor and
materials is submitted to the property
owner for his agr^eement. Upon com
pletkm of the work, tha^ owner is
billed for the actnai coat of labor
and materials. No charge it made for
the cost of supervision of the program,
this hieing borne by City. State and
Federal agencies.
Two blocks of the business area
have now been completed, and work
is progressing on the remaining bolld
ings. It Is expected that this pro
gram will be completed in the next
three months, if proper cooperation
of property owners and tenants is
secured.
Dr. Humphries stressed the fact
that estimates are only for labor and
material, and do not Include any
element of profit. He further ex
pressed the Impe that property owners
win conlthue" to cooperate with the
Health Dept, in the furtherance of
this public health work.
