Sam McCaskill,' local distributor for
the State in Camden for the past 18
years, was a very happy, individual
last Sunday morning. He was read-*
lug the State very, very early, for the
papers come In before daylight. What
Sam saw on the sport page made him
hasten home and. show Mrs. McCas-
kill
For the State carried the picture
which accompanies this story.. It

and Mrs. Sam McCaaktII, 514 Walnut
street, a former Duke university foot
ball star, and now a first lleuterant
tn the army, with Major Elmer A.
Wrann of Greensboro, holding a foot
ball. The scene is in the Marshall
Islands and McCaskill and Wrenn,
former gridiron foes when the latter
played on the University of North
Carolina team, posed, with a pigskin.
These two boys are now with the
Leatherneck ^dcaneefs, a hard-hit
ting tighter squadron and they are
now carrying the ball together against
the Jape.

the football teams of the bitter rivals,
Duke and the University of North
Carolina, now are carrying the ball
together against the Japs. And both
are In the same fighter squadron, the
hard-hitting Leatherneck Buccaueera.

Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Pate received a
message Saturday stating that their
nephew, Sgt. William R. Myers, parl-
trooper, died In .Holland Sept. 21, ns
result of wounds received in actioA.
Sgt. Myers was the hero of a newlH-
paper article by Walter McCallum,
star correspondent relating the 4eatb
of the captain and bow Sgt Myers
took over the town Carentao. 'He is
known to have had six dead Germans
to his credit. Sgt. Myers enlisted in
the army when he was 15 years old
by representing, himself as older. He
lived with his uncle, C.^ C. Pate, and
